At Network for Hope (NFH) the Tissue Clinical Educator is the subject matter expert responsible for the activities related to the training and education of the Tissue Recovery Coordinators (TRCs), including to teach, support, counsel, coach, evaluate and serve as a role model for the Tissue team.

The Tissue Clinical Educator will apply their education and experience to provide effective training, meeting regulatory and NFH expectations, including to ensure competence and consistency.

This position reports to the Education & Development (E&D) Manager and will work cohesively with Tissue leadership to identify priorities and fulfill the training and education needs of the department.

Duties and Responsibilities

Teaching

1. Works collaboratively with Tissue leadership and E&D Manager to develop and deliver training presentations and materials for departmental onboarding, certification prep courses, and ongoing education to suit a wide variety of learners;

presents complex topics and concepts in ways that are understood utilizing adult learning models.

2. Stays current on policies, procedures and best practices and ensures training materials are updated regularly to reflect the most current expectations.

3. Provides on-the-job training for new staff in a clinical setting as well as classroom training.

4. Provides education to Tissue team for the implementation of new clinical processes.

5. Successfully completes the required education opportunities provided internally, as well as those facilitated by external partners.

6. Guides and assists new Tissue team members in the integration into NFH culture and environment.

7. Acts as a liaison between the E&D Department and the Tissue Department for all training related activities.

8. Manages the orientee schedule to ensure adequate experience is provided both in-field and classroom settings. This may include redirecting planned case activity when appropriate.

Documentation

1. Sets a standard of excellence in departmental documentation by maintaining expectation of minimal errors and developing best practices.

2. Documents training progress in the learning management system in an accurate and timely manner.

3. Responsible for documenting final signoff on all clinical skills for Tissue orientation checklist.

4. Documents appropriate progress feedback to be utilized in new hire check-ins.

5. Participates in process improvement projects when applicable.

Competency Assessment

1. Ensures Tissue team members can effectively meet the essential functions of the role prior to being released from the departmental orientation period by providing onsite training and skills / competency observation and assessments.

2. Establishes learning objectives and assigns appropriate tasks or educational opportunities to preceptees in support of these objectives in a consistent manner.

3. Frequent assessment of multiple preceptees to evaluate departmental orientation progress.

4. Collaborates with the Supervisor and the E&D Manager to develop and deliver milestone competency assessments for clinical staff.

5. Validates preceptees' understanding of all NFH SOPs and regulatory standards (AATB).

6. Collaborates with the Quality and Human Resources departments to address specific training needs identified on performance appraisals, occurrences and organizational audits such as hospital feedback, FDA, AATB, and CMS.

7. Conduct regular debriefing sessions with Tissue orientees, staff and department leadership to identify strengths / weaknesses, review achievement / non-achievement of training objectives, identify future training goals and appropriately document staff member's case experiences.

8. Oversees the preceptor program through selection, evaluation, and continuing education.

Communication

1. Regularly provides valuable feedback and coaching with the tissue leadership and E&D Manager to monitor and evaluate orientation progress.

2. Proactively communicates with Tissue team preceptors, leadership, and other educators to gather feedback and validate orientation checklist signoffs.

3. Set exemplary standards of communication with internal and external partners by exhibiting NFH's core values at all times.

4. Participates in the initial 30 / 60 / 90-day check-in process for respective orientees.

Advanced Practice

1. Maintains CTBS certification.

2. Works with tissue processors to arrange training specific to those organizations and associated devices.

3. Acts as subject matter expert for new department initiatives and trains staff in accordance with newly developed and existing processes.

Education, experience and training

  • Education : High School Diploma, or equivalent required. Post-secondary education or training in a medical or related field is preferred.
  • Experience : Minimum of 2 years in an OPO tissue recovery position required. Extensive related experience outside of tissue recovery may substitute and will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  • Licensure, Certification, and / or Registration : Certified Tissue Bank Specialist (CTBS) required.
