Mental Health Assistant

2nd shift position

Duties and Responsibilities :

Assist the clinical team, with behavioral issues within the department including monitoring and assessing patient behaviors.

Examples include eating disorders, psychiatric disorders, aggressive and self-injurious behaviors. Assist with AMA / ASA protocolMaintain communications / contact with clinical staff regarding patient issuesDocument patient behavior in Sigmund via shift notesDe-escalate patients

• Organize patient movement. Transport patients to activities / appointmentsEnsure patient attendance to clinical officeEnsure attendance at outside meetings, fitness and recreational activitiesMonitor and direct patients during emergency evacuations
• Manage the admission, residential and transfer process for the patient. Administer luggage checks, transfer luggage weighing up to 50 lbs.

Monitors patients, property, and houses throughout the shift to ensure safety of the environment.

• Follow protocol for patients returning from off-site including but not limited to : UDS, breathalyzers and luggage checks.
• Responsible for the presentation of the facility. Monitor patients to ensure the facility maintains a neat and safe environmentEnsure patient areas are kept clean and presentable
• Mentor and train new CA staff.
• Participate in the interview process for new Counselor Assistants to include applicants who participate in shadowing days.

• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Must be able to walk and actively participate in activities throughout facilities
• Must be able to drive a 15-passenger van or car to and from various activities
• Must be able to work overtime / extended hours as needed

EXPERIENCE / EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS :

• Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or addictions certification preferred
• Requires basic computer skills
• A basic understanding of chemical dependency, preferred
• 21 years of age or older is required
• Requires a current, valid, unrestricted driver’s license
• If in recovery, 2 years of continuous sobriety is preferred

Knowledge, Skills AND Abilities :

• Must be thoroughly familiar or willingness to learn and be able to demonstrate knowledge of the principles of behavioral health, addictions, the recovery process, and programs of the various 12-step fellowships
• Must possess the skills to adequately supervise respective population and be able to observe, report, and document behaviors.
• Must be able to operate as a role model in decorum, speech, and behaviors consistent with recovery principles
• Must possess cultural sensitivity and act appropriately within a culture that is not your own
• Must be computer literate and able to work with most Microsoft applications along with other network components

Demonstrate an ability to manage the patient population following guidelines detailed in training plan (measured via Direct Observation and Patient Satisfaction)

• Promote a positive peer culture with patients and families
• Ability to work interdepartmentally and as a team player with other CA staff within the organization. Demonstrate the ability to accurately communicate, document and report patient behavior to other necessary staff
• Must be able to complete necessary documentation such as written reports, shift change, and incident reports utilizing a computer, measured via Direct Observation
• Ability to properly navigate the network components and computer programs to fulfill job duties
