Job Overview :

We are looking for a detail-oriented and experienced Estimator specializing in commercial and industrial electrical projects.

The ideal candidate will possess a solid understanding of electrical construction, mechanical principles, and the ability to analyze and interpret project specifications independently.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Project Assessment : Review and interpret project plans, specifications, and electrical drawings to fully understand the scope of work required.
  • Cost Estimation : Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates, breaking down projects into materials, equipment, labor, and subcontractor costs.
  • Quantity Takeoff : Conduct precise quantity takeoffs for electrical materials and components, ensuring adherence to project specifications and industry standards.
  • Vendor and Supplier Management : Source and evaluate vendors for electrical materials, maintain supplier relationships, and ensure competitive pricing and quality.
  • Labor and Resource Allocation : Assess labor requirements and coordinate with project managers to allocate resources effectively.
  • Cost Analysis : Identify potential cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or safety by analyzing project costs and exploring alternative materials or methods.
  • Proposal Preparation : Prepare clear, detailed proposals and bid documents that present cost breakdowns and project timelines.
  • Communication and Collaboration : Collaborate effectively with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders, ensuring accurate cost estimations and addressing inquiries promptly.
  • Estimation Software Proficiency : Utilize Accubid or similar estimating software to create accurate models of work, including cost-loaded breakdowns and detailed project sorting.
  • Documentation and Reporting : Maintain accurate records of cost estimates and bids, providing regular reports on progress and potential changes.
  • Risk Assessment : Identify and assess risks associated with projects and develop strategies to mitigate those risks.
  • Continuous Improvement : Stay updated with industry standards, codes, and pricing trends, participating in professional development opportunities.

Qualifications :

  • 1-3 years of experience in the electrical construction industry, specifically in commercial and / or public works.
  • Knowledge of architecture and general engineering principles, with a strong understanding of electrical and mechanical construction.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Outlook and Bluebeam; able to prepare accurate correspondence and scope letters.
  • Experienced with Accubid or similar estimating software, capable of creating detailed cost models.
  • Strong detail orientation and efficiency in quantity takeoffs.
  • Ability to set labor units and material pricing in cases without precedents, using sound judgment.
  • Proven ability to develop relationships with clients and collaborate effectively at all organizational levels.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Results-oriented and adaptable to changing environments.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and mentor junior staff to facilitate departmental growth.
