Responsibilities :
- Interpret spoken language into sign language and vice versa accurately and effectively.
- Ensure clear communication between deaf or hard of hearing individuals and hearing individuals in various settings.
- Adapt interpreting style and vocabulary to match the preferences and needs of the individuals involved.
- Remain impartial and maintain confidentiality during all interpreting assignments.
- Stay updated on relevant terminology and industry standards to ensure high-quality interpretation services.
- Collaborate with clients, colleagues, and other professionals to provide comprehensive support.
Requirements :
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) or other relevant sign language(s).
- Certification or licensure as a Sign Language Interpreter (e.g., RID certification).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Cultural competency and sensitivity towards the deaf and hard of hearing community.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Flexibility to work in various settings and adapt to different communication styles.
- Previous experience as a Sign Language Interpreter preferred but not required.
