Position Function

Operation of heavy equipment in support of the City's construction and infrastructure maintenance needs.

Tasks / Duties

  • Operate various medium and heavy equipment including Dump Trucks, Forklifts, Lightning Loaders, Bobcat Skid-Steers, Mini Excavators, and Vac-Con.
  • Perform preventative maintenance, daily pre-trip, and post-trip inspections of equipment.
  • Haul sewage to the city's regional wastewater reclamation facility.
  • Assist in the evaluation, prioritization and repair of all lift stations, including the installation and repair of piping, valving, pumps and electrical controls.
  • Operate portable equipment.
  • Read meters and perform calculations.
  • Remove sewer lids, assist in the repairs of force mains, and work in confined spaces.
  • Use gas detection monitors.
  • Perform labor duties (digging, working with jack hammer) and janitorial duties (paint lift stations and minor yard work).
  • Keep records and reports of monthly grease trap inspections, and maintenance of vactor truck.
  • Organize and perform grease trap inspections.
  • Be available for emergency call-outs and on-call duty, particularly during inclement weather or other emergency situations.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, employees, other departments, and the public.
  • Utilize safety equipment and monitor work environments to ensure safety.
  • Support city events and perform other related duties as assigned.
  • In the event of an emergency, all employees are considered essential and may be required to perform duties outside of their normal job description.
  • Complete required trainings as specifiedwithin the City Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : Heavy Equipment Operator I

Valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with airbrake and tank vehicle endorsements or proof of written portion (valid permit) of Class B CDL.

Must obtain Florida Class B CDL within thirty days of employment).

Wastewater Collection C (1 Year) or an equivalent combination of training, education and years' experience in wastewater environment.

Heavy Equipment Operator II

  • 3+ years of experience operating medium to heavy equipment in a utility construction field.
  • Valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with airbrake and tank vehicle endorsements.
  • Wastewater Collection B or an equivalent combination of training, education and years' experience in wastewater environment.

Heavy Equipment Operator III

  • Six (6) years of experience operating medium to heavy equipment in a utility construction field.
  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with airbrake and tank vehicle endorsements and hazmat endorsement within 30 days of employment.
  • Wastewater Collection A or an equivalent combination of training, education and years' experience in wastewater environment.

PREFERABLE QUALIFICATIONS :

  • MOT Intermediate (1 Year)
  • FEMA NIMS Courses (6 Months) - Basic IS-700, Basic ICS-100
  • FIPA Industrial Pretreatment C (1 Year)
  • FIPA Fats, Oils & Grease Management II (6 Months)
  • FIPA Industrial Pretreatment B (1 Year)
  • FIPA Fats, Oils & Grease Management II (1 Year) MOT Advanced (1 Year)
  • FIPA Industrial Pretreatment A (1 Year)

Supplemental Information

Applicants will be required to complete a Disclosure & Authorization Regarding Background Investigation, a Confidentiality Agreement and a criminal background screening.

Driving history for the past three (3) years must reflect no violations of a driving related felony offense, or driving under the influence (DUI) which includes both drugs and alcohol, reckless driving, or hit and run involving an occupied vehicle or attended property, or an accumulation of traffic violations, plus three (3) points for each attendance at driving school (regardless of whether points were assessed against the license) where the penalty points do not exceed twelve (12).

Position is considered at-risk for exposure to Hepatitis B during performance of regular duties. An acceptance / declination of vaccination form is required.

This position is covered under the D.O.T. regulations for pre-employment drug testing and inquiries.

If selected, an essential functions assessment is required to measure the ability to safely perform the required physical demands.
