At Houston Methodist the OperationsAdministrator (OA) position is responsible for providingoperational oversight and leadership throughout the organization.

This position is responsible for leadership in unforeseensituations making timely decisions that directly impact patientcare fostering interdepartmental / interprofessional collaborationwhich reflect the mission and values of Houston Methodist.

The OAposition ensures timely and effective communication and providesclinical guidance in the management of patient care staffing andinterpreting and implementing established policies and procedures.

This position creates an environment for the management anddelivery of safe patient care. The OA position demonstratescritical thinking through selfdirection initiative effectiveinterpersonal skills and oral / written communicationsskills.

PEOPLE ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS

Assigns availablepersonnel assesses triage assignments and makes appropriatemodifications during the shift as necessary.

Plans and coordinatesstaffing needs for the next shift and assesses needs for thefollowing shift.

  • Rolemodels interprofessional communication which includes activelistening and teaching communicating organizational information andall aspects of administrative and clinical practice in a respectfuland positive way when interacting withstaff.
  • Conducts fair andconsistent leadership skills for effective team dynamics andteambuilding strategies through problem resolution and coaching.

Supports policy adherence and provides disciplinary measures whenappropriate. Assists with staff stress management asneeded.

Improvesdepartment score for turnover / retention / employeeengagement.

SERVICEESSENTIALFUNCTIONS

Coordinates andexpedites the admission / discharge transfer and bed control processto optimize patient flow. Monitors and facilitates smooth andtimely patient flow to ensure process efficiency.

Provides bedassignments support as needed withdesignee.

  • Oversees theactivity in hospital operations during their shift. Managesadministrative issues effectively informs and documents pertinentinformation to Executive On Call executive staff directors andmanagers.
  • Partners withpublic relations to manage outsidemedia.
  • Troubleshootsproblems and / or issues regarding patient / family care visitors andfacility issues on off shifts and weekends.

Drives servicestandards and activities to improve department score for patientsatisfaction through role modeling and fosteringaccountability.

QUALITY / SAFETYESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Monitorsand analyzes work methods staff scheduling and make appropriateadjustments to assure a high level of service quality and costeffectiveness
  • Maintainsawareness / responsiveness of all emergency codes and disasterpreparedness coordinating when critical situations occur.

Rolemodels situational awareness using teachable moments to improvesafety.

Participatesand / or leads and facilitates department processimprovements.

FINANCEESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Attendsdaily care coordination rounds to facilitate patient progression.Manages bed closures and staffing allocation / cancellations tooptimize efficiencies and reduceovertime.
  • Implementsdepartment strategies to achieve financial target and staffingneeds. Mentors others to do the same through timely documentationof care decreasing length of stay optimizing efficiency minimizingincidental overtime and other areas asappropriate.

GROWTH / INNOVATIONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Serves as amentor / role model and actively participates in hospital qualityservice and shared governance councils making recommendations forimprovements within and across departments / units committees andquality improvement initiatives.

Supports change initiatives andadapts to unexpectedchanges.

Seeksopportunities to identify developmental needs of self and staff andtakes appropriate action. Ensures own career discussions occur withappropriate management.

Completes and updates the individualdevelopment plan (IDP) on an ongoingbasis.

EDUCATION

  • Bachelorsdegree or higher from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Masters degreepreferred

WORKEXPERIENCE

Five yearshospital experience in nursing; for HM internal four yearsexperience in nursing which includes HM performance thatdemonstrates progressive leadership abilities i.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONSREQUIRED

  • RN Registered NurseTexas State Licensure and / or Compact State Licensure within 60 days OR
  • RNTemp Registered NurseTemporary State Licensure within 60 days AND
  • BLS Basic Life Support(AHA) AND
  • NVCRISISNonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI) within 90 days AND
  • Magnet ANCC RecognizedCertification within 1 year

KNOWLEDGE SKILLSAND ABILITIES

  • Demonstratesthe skills and competencies necessary to safely perform theassigned job determined through ongoing skills competencyassessments and performanceevaluations
  • Sufficientproficiency in speaking reading and writing the English languagenecessary to perform the essential functions of this job especiallywith regard to activities impacting patient or employee safety orsecurity
