Position Summary The Lead Lab Teaching Assistant (TA) assists current RSO students with lab tutoring for the following courses : Clinical Optometry I, Clinical Optometry II, Clinical Optometry III, and Clinical Optometry IV.
Additionally, the Lead TA performs administrative duties in scheduling and communicating with Lab TAs. The Lead Lab Teaching Assistant reports to the Associate Professor. Essential Functions
- Create a weekly schedule for the Lab Tas (this includes coordination of individual TA preferences / availability).
- Communicating all lab policies and responsibilities to the Lab TAs.
- Documenting any issues that may arise with the students using the lab.
- Communicating closely with the Lead instructors of the Clinical Optometry 1-IV courses as the need arises.
- May schedule self as an after-hours lab TA, ensuring that all lab TAs document and submit their hours worked in a prompt and timely manner.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Strong performance in the laboratory portion of the pre-clinical sequence
- Ability to work with optometry students at a variety of skill levels
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures
- Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University
Required Education -Current 3rd year / 4th year UIW Rosenberg School of Optometry student who has completed the courses in which the TAs will assist with.
Required Work Experience No prior work experience is needed. Preferred Qualifications
- Interest in student success and helping current RSO students improve their skills in the pre-clinical sequence labs.
- Comfortable working with students in a small group or one-on-one basis.
- Strong organizational skills.
Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations None. Work Hours
- Lab TAs typically work from 5-7 pm on weekdays, with occasional hours of 7-9 pm.
- Weekend hours are usually 10 am-4 pm.
- Lead Lab TA will communicate hours which was increase before proficiencies and decrease when labs are completed.
