Occupational Therapist K-12 (2024-25)

This position is responsible for providing OT intervention(s) to students on Individual Education Plans (IEP) or plans. The students have a variety of educationally related disabilities and may also have underlying medical diagnoses.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  • Evaluating school-related function fine motor, sensory-motor, and self-help skills within the scope of occupational therapy practice as designated by the Missouri Occupational Therapy Practice Act.
  • Providing a continuum of occupational therapy intervention from consultation to supporting designated goals in the Individualized Educational Plan or access to the school environment.
  • Completing, monitoring and supporting the Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) through collaboration with other IEP team members.
  • Communicating with parents regarding occupational therapy evaluation of intervention services on a regular scheduled basis.
  • Providing in-services to educators, paraprofessionals, and other specialists on the role of the occupational therapist in the schools.
  • Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as needed.

Performs other duties as necessary to support the mission and vision of Columbia Public School District.

Reports To : Supervisor of OT / PT and Adapted PE

Supervises : None

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum : Bachelor degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited OT program; Must be listed on the professional registry and licensed in the state of Missouri;

Experience in providing OT to children is required.

Preferred : Experience serving children in a public school setting is preferred; Advanced training in school-based practice is a plus, as well as experience in serving children with autism and / or multiple disabilities.

  • Physical Demands : An individual who holds this position is frequently required to walk, stand, stoop, bend, and kneel; Is regularly required to talk and hear;
  • daily personal and close contact with children is required; the selected applicant will regularly assist students with bodily movement;
  • Must frequently lift and / or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and / or move up to pounds; Will regularly push, pull, reach for, and carry objects;

Must demonstrate significant finger dexterity; Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
