Under the supervision of the Aquatics Coordinator / Director and in accordance with the Christian mission of the YMCA, the Advanced Swim Instructor is responsible for teaching swim lessons according to YUSA program standards.
Principle Activities :
Teach swim lessons according to YMCA of the USA standardsCreate a positive learning environment through personal enthusiasmBe safety-conscious, maintain order and enforce rules during lessons to ensure swimmer safetyKeep accurate records of attendance and skills achieved by each student, each session.
Provide each student with written records of progressUse swim aids effectively to maximize each individual’s practice timeUtilize written lesson plans for each lesson to make the most efficient use of class time.
Assist in planning and leading meetings and in-service trainingsServe as new swim instructor mentor and trainerConduct evaluation on new swim instructorCoordinate swim instructor schedules to include roster distributionCoordinate program evaluation process.
Coordinate parent / participant orientation.Effectively communicates with parentsServe as pool deck managerCarries out additional duties as assigned by supervisor
Requirements :
Must have at least three years of swim instructionExperience or ability to teach experienced swimmersMust successfully complete, and maintain current certification, as a YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor ( hours) prior to teaching alone or within days if a current Red Cross Swim InstructorCurrent status in the following certifications, to be renewed annually : Professional Level CPR First Aid Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) Oxygen Administration Must complete the following trainings before working first shift and are to be renewed annually : Blood Borne Pathogens and Child Abuse Prevention.
Must complete YMCA of Greater Charlotte New Staff Connection prior to employmentMust complete I Create Loyalty Training within days of hireMust successfully complete Adult Learning Concepts, Orientation to the YMCA training System, and Facilitation Skills for TrainersMust present a professional, mature image, and have excellent interpersonal communication skills
