Job Title : Assistant Associate Director, Student Engagement

Department : Center for Student Engagement

FLSA Status : Exempt

Reports to : Director, Student Life & Judicial Affairs

Work Schedule : 35 hours / week; 12 months / year (May require evening and weekend work when mandated by the demands of the admission process)

Grade Level : 7

Salary Range : $54,900 - $68,600

Job Description :

The Associate Director of Student Engagement is responsible for providing leadership and administrative direction to a comprehensive and vibrant student engagement program that complements and supports the College’s mission, connects students with campus involvement opportunities that enhance their overall student experience and enriches the quality of student life on campus.

The position will build a student engagement program that honors diversity, access and celebrates the engagement of all MICA students.

The position will lead the areas of student activities, new student orientation programs, student organizations and leadership, and in collaboration with the office of International Education, will support international student integration into the campus community.

The Associate Director must be committed to fostering the social, artistic, intellectual, educational, cultural, and recreational development of art students through planned programs and activities, must be sensitive to the needs of a diverse student body, and have an appreciation for the value of art in our society.

This position involves significant partnership and collaboration with other campus offices.

Position responsibilities :

Overall management and supervision of Student Engagement Programs and Program Managers. Responsible for providing leadership and strategic development of a variety of programs.

Plan, implement, assess, negotiate contracts, schedule, organize and oversee student activities and events including New Student Orientation, Involvement & Recognition Ceremony, Commencement, Halloween Ball, Last Blast.

Develop, implement, and oversee a comprehensive co-curricular First Year Experience program that facilitates student development, campus involvement, and support student retention

Lead and cultivate a vibrant student activities and engagement program, through collaboration with faculty, staff, and students, that positively contributes to student success, retention, and to the College’s mission.

Oversee management of all student space art galleries on campus, as well as the selection of student jury members and coordination of the jury and application process.

In collaboration with the Director of Student Life and Judicial affairs, oversee all student organizations and provide support in the execution of their activities / events.

Ensure an emphasis on diversity, access, and inclusion are integral to the design, planning, and implementation of all programs and services, marketing materials and opportunities for participation

Lead a dynamic and engaging student leadership and engagement program with an emphasis on student development, access, and opportunity for all students to become involved

Participate in institutional effectiveness measures including annual goals, objectives, planning, and assessment of learning outcomes

Supervise, hire, and train the Student Involvement Specialist.

In partnership with the Director, serve as the Student Voice Association’s (SVA) staff advisor.

Oversee all aspects of the student programming including training, mentorship, transition, advising, event coordination and assessment.

Allocate and manage student organization budgets. Assist in budget management including tracking of expenses, gift card forms, and creating reimbursements for students.

Responsible for student organization’s leadership development, including implementation of training, handbook, budget management and retreat.

Coordinate Program Manager (PM) recruitment, hiring, and training, weekly staff meetings, team events and professional development workshops.

Participate in campus-wide and Division of Student Affairs committees as assigned.

Chair the division iLEAD Committee, which implements various engagement and leadership initiatives such as the Involvement survey, mentoring program, iLEAD hiring campaign and MICA Leadership Awards ceremony.

Manage all Student Engagement web pages and social media accounts

Provide support for office events and initiatives

Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications :

Master’s degree or higher in Student Affairs Administration or a related field

Relevant progressive experience in student activities, student engagement or a related field in a college or university setting

Event planning and program management experience

Sensitivity to and interest in the unique concerns of art students and the studio experience in a highly specialized and demanding educational environment

Essential skills and experience :

General knowledge of the principles, practices, and trends of the Student Affairs field and a commitment to working with a diverse student body to further the work of creating a just and inclusive community

Ability to carry out a variety of professionally complex assignments and implement effective courses of action without detailed instructions

Strong organizational, creative and innovative capabilities and the ability to successfully implement new initiatives and maximize available resources

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Ability to work independently and as a part of a team

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Ability to work in a collaborative, arts-oriented academic environment

Believe in the value of art and creativity in the community

Reporting to this position : Student Involvement Specialist and student leaders (Program Managers, Program Directors, etc.)
