About the Role :

Reporting directly to the Legal Director or Deputy Legal Director, you will play a key role in providing comprehensive legal services to our clients.
This includes managing cases from intake through post-trial motions and appeals, with a particular focus on protective orders, family law, and complex litigation in Maryland courts.
This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney with over 5 years of experience in family law, particularly in cases involving protective orders.
You will be part of a collaborative legal team committed to systemic advocacy, policy work, and providing crucial support to clients facing challenging situations.
Key Responsibilities :
- Client-Centered Legal Representation : Independently manage a full caseload of family law cases, including protective orders, child custody, divorce, and related matters such as contempt, modification, and appeals.
- Case Preparation : Conduct thorough client intake interviews, prepare legal memoranda, collect evidence, and identify key witnesses to build strong cases.
- Litigation Excellence : Engage in effective litigation strategies, including persuasive oral arguments, witness preparation, and the presentation of evidence in court.
- Document Drafting : Draft and review legal documents, including discovery, motions, complaints, and correspondence.
- Team Collaboration : Work closely with the legal team to provide mentorship, technical assistance, and consultation to legal interns, paralegals, and external attorneys.
- Systemic Advocacy : Participate in policy work, provide legal advice, and engage in systemic advocacy to drive meaningful change.
- Administrative Duties : Maintain detailed client logs, update case management systems, and ensure compliance with ethical and legal standards.
What You Bring :
- Legal Expertise : Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school and an active license to practice law in Maryland, with over 5 years of experience in family law, particularly involving protective orders.
- Advocacy Passion : A deep commitment to providing top-tier legal services to non-offending protective parents and victims of interpersonal violence or child abuse.
- Strong Communication Skills : Exceptional written and oral communication skills, with the ability to convey complex legal concepts clearly and effectively.
- Organizational Skills : Ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines with a high level of attention to detail.
- Team Player : Flexible, collaborative, and able to work well with others in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
- Technical Proficiency : Skilled in using Microsoft Office Suite, MDEC, CLIO, and other case management systems.
