Life Underwriter
Job Summary :
The Underwriter is a junior-level underwriter who is fully trained with a minimum of two years of underwriting or related experience to approve cases up to a specific standard and substandard limits.
Duties / Responsibilities :
- Underwrite individual life insurance applications, within guidelines set for the issuance of policies on a standard or substandard basis
- Determine whether to accept, modify or decline a risk through evaluation of an individual’s medical history or physical condition, occupational hazards, financial background, insurable interest, and other information pertinent to the decision
- Has contact with the field force to gather information on which to base decisions
- Consult with superiors or medical department concerning any questionable medical or personal situations
- Superiors review cases requiring higher ratings or amounts in excess of prescribed limits
Required Skills / Abilities :
- Analytical skills and computational aptitude
- Sound judgement
- Negotiation and interpersonal skills
Education and Experience :
- Minimum 2 years of underwriting or related experience
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Fluent in English and Spanish, a plus
- Complete LOMA’s Certificate in Underwriting
Physical Requirements :
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
Schedule and Salary Range :
- Full-time, in-office position
- Monday through Thursday : 8 : 00 a.m. 4 : 45 p.m.
- Friday : 8 : 00 a.m. 3 : 00 p.m.
- Salary Range : $60,000 - $80,800 annually
