Product Engineer
Pelletron, part of PiovanGroup North America, is the global leading supplier for dust removal systems for plastic processors and plastics manufacturers.
Besides the plastics industry, the dedusting technology is also used in the food, mineral and recycling industries. In 2003, the company began to expand into the pneumatic conveying field and developed a new pressure conveying process, trade named pellcon3®.
Pelletron has a wide range of pneumatic conveying components such as rotary valves, diverter valves and shut-off valves, specially designed for conveying of pellets and powders.
The Pellbow®, a special pipe elbow, another Pelletron invention, is used in the plastics industry to prevent dust and streamers in the conveying process.
Purpose
The Product Engineer is responsible for the engineering associated with both Pelletron proprietary products and commonly used outside procured products that would be of sufficient complexity to warrant engineering for selection, sizing, and specification.
This includes support of Project Engineering during contract execution with engineering calculations, data and drawings, as well as technical maintenance of product performance data, ancillary equipment, and standard designs.
Duties and Responsibilities
Support contract execution by performing product and ancillary equipment selection, sizing, design, and development of operating data along with providing necessary documentation.
This includes datasheets, drawings, and other required documents to support project engineering.
- Support the Sales group in the proposal effort by providing technical advice, engineering estimates, and preliminary design calculations and information.
- Perform standard and custom engineering calculations as required in order to ensure that equipment performance targets are met, that the equipment designs are safe and reliable, and that they adhere to customer specifications.
- Support New Product Development and R&D initiatives through involvement in related projects to ensure that performance and costs targets are met for new products.
- Review and act upon feedback from the Operations group to improve equipment designs and facilitate smooth and trouble-free assembly processes.
- Determine causes for any shortfalls in performance of Pelletron products, develop timely and cost effective solutions for such situations, and implement these solutions to correct shortfalls.
- Standardize and streamline Pelletron’s component families.
Qualifications and Work Experience
Bachelor of Science degree in either Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology with coursework in fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, mechanics and machine design, and with minimum of two years of related experience.
Additional desirable experience includes :
- Understanding and ability to apply engineering mathematics ( algebra, trig, and calculus)
- Understanding of manufacturing processes including sheet metal fabrication, welding, casting, and machining
- Hands on experience with assembly / disassembly of mechanical components
- Understanding of electronic control systems using equipment such as PLC’s.
- Bulk solids handling and / or pneumatic conveying
- Working knowledge of CAD software (such as AutoCAD or SolidWorks). Use of Finite Element Analysis is a plus.
- Proficiency in use of Microsoft Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint with ability to learn new programs as required.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents including process flow diagrams, P&ID’s, and equipment arrangement, assembly, and manufacturing drawings.
- Communication skills to include :
- Oral communications with peers, groups, and customers
- Written communication in the form of email and reports
