Artsana USA, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Artsana Sp.A., a premier juvenile products brand and one of Europe’s largest producers of infant and juvenile baby products, seeks a Product Engineer who is responsible for designing and engineering Chicco brand infant & juvenile products such as car seats, strollers, playards and highchairs.

Reporting to the VP of Product Development, this person will work with product development, marketing, sales, and other internal and external partners to meet or exceed the defined criteria for aesthetics, features, cost, manufacturability, safety, and quality within a scheduled time frame.

The Product Engineer communicates frequently with strategic partners located in the US, Europe, and Asia. This work requires an individual who excels at creative problem solving and can effectively communicate conceptual solutions through technical descriptions, sketches, 3D CAD drawings, and functional prototypes.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Conducts preliminary research and generates concepts to define and meet customer and product requirements
  • Defines aesthetic forms, builds models, creates 3D geometry using SolidWorks software, prepares detailed CAD drawings, and determines engineering specifications to effectively communicate design intent
  • Fabricates and tests functional prototypes to validate design concepts, evaluates initial manufacturing samples, and resolves all safety or quality issues in preparation for final production
  • Examines problems with a disciplined approach and uses the appropriate methodology to analyze and determine the most effective solutions to technical challenges
  • Calculates product costs while driving to a cost target
  • Interfaces with international designers, development teams, and suppliers
  • Occasional domestic and international travel

JOB REQUIREMENTS :

Education & Experience :

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or relevant technical program
  • 2+ years of work experience in product design and engineering, ideally in the area of consumer products

Technical Skills :

  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks preferred) to create virtual models is required, with the ability to create parts and assemblies from sketches
  • Ability to use hand tools and operate light machinery in a shop environment
  • Strong aptitude for mechanical analysis with an adeptness at discovering innovative solutions for difficult problems
  • Ability to communicate new concepts through sketches, drawings, models, technical writing and / or group presentations
  • Strong prototyping / design validation model building skills
  • Knowledge of relevant manufacturing processes
  • Dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers
  • Strong interpersonal and project management skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to perform multiple tasks in order to meet a critical deadline
  • Excels in a team environment
