Supervisor, Nursing is a professional, registered nurse who is a skilled communicator, collaborator and authentic leader.

This position effectively coordinates staffing, supports throughput, quality and safety outcomes, staff competency, hiring, clinical and staff corrective actions, unit efficiency, quality care and other departmental activities to support the mission, vision and values of Hackensack Meridian Health.

In collaboration with the Nurse Manager, assesses, plans, implements, monitors and evaluates nursing practice and the nursing care delivery system with direct supervision of front-line staff.

Responsibilities

  • Participate with recruitment and retention strategies
  • Assist with unit huddles and leader rounding with employees
  • Participates with unit goal creation which are reflective of the hospital goals as well as the mission and vision of Hackensack Meridian Health
  • Participate or lead when appropriate : evidenced-based practice projects or research
  • Participate or lead when appropriate : unit-based or hospital based shared governance committees or councils
  • Resolve conflicts and facilitates constructive resolutions and positive outcomes if possible
  • Complete employee corrective action plans / counseling as necessary
  • Adhere to HMH's Organizational and Managerial competencies and standards of behavior
  • Prepare and conduct periodic performance evaluations to assigned staff members
  • Contribute to and / or monitors the unit orientation process of all roles as necessary
  • Participate with and models the importance of employee recognition
  • Model cultural competence, social justice and fairness, and capitalizes on generational diversity to foster highly effective work groups
  • Where applicable, escalates nursing labor / management issues.
  • Financial Management The ANM collaborates with the Nurse Manager for efficient fiscal management of departmental activities to ensure proper utilization of hospital resources : Participates in Payroll, Staff Scheduling and daily staffing needsAssists in the management of the department budget.

Monitors business intelligence for the unitMaximizes care efficiency and throughputUnderstands the relationship between value-based purchasing and quality outcomes with revenue and reimbursementMonitors unit staffing productivity and flexes staff accordingly

  • Quality and Safety / Performance Improvement In collaboration with the Nurse Manager, the ANM will : Optimize the patient and family experience of careLead Multidisciplinary RoundsEnsure unit-based performance improvement monitoring is completed, trended and reported internal and external to the unitLead or participates with quality improvement projectsLead or conducts root cause analysis investigationsAssure unit regulatory complianceParticipate in staff education and competencyServe as a role model to others and mentor new employees and new Charge RNs

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required :

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required. (Note : Prior to July 2022, Exceptions were allowed for internal candidates with BSN in progress however must be obtained within 3 years).
  • Minimum 2 years recent nursing experience in respective specialty or equivalent. Exceptions may be made for internal candidates on a case by case basis (i.

e. the candidate has a history of hospital administration education / experience).

  • The ability to learn quickly and adapt to changing patient needs, a strong sense of accountability for improving the lives of our patients and their caregivers, an exceptional focus on teamwork, dedication to ongoing education and the ability and passion to deliver the highest quality of care based on a strong sense of patient focus are all required.
  • National Certification acceptable to the Magnet Recognition Program and appropriate to your current specialty (within two years of hire).

Supervisory or charge nurse experience
