Job Description : Position Summary The Biofabrication division within the 3D Technologies group at Merck is looking for an enrolled PHD student who is passionate about developing complex in vitro models for drug discovery and development.

The scientist will work on an independent project under direct supervision using their previously acquired skills in biological systems, in vitro modelling, and bioprinting.

- Collaborate with our multidisciplinary research team to develop, assess, and streamline complex in vitro model systems fabricated using state-of-the-art commercial bioprinters.
- Design and execute experiments involving cell line and primary mammalian cells, natural and synthetic biomaterials, and microfluidic systems linked to fluidic pumps, to advance our research goals.
- Analyze experimental data, interpret results, and contribute to the formulation of hypotheses.
- Maintain accurate and detailed lab notebooks to document procedures, observations, and findings.
- Participate in lab meetings, discussions, and knowledge-sharing sessions.
- Contribute to the preparation of scientific publications, reports, and presentations.

Qualifications :
- Currently enrolled in a PhD program in Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Cellular Biology, Biochemistry, Medical Sciences, or related field, with a strong academic track record.
- Proficiency in a wide range of wet lab techniques, including general aseptic techniques, mammalian cell & tissue culture, fluorescent microscopy, and cell-based assays.
- Experience in design and data analysis, including Computer-Assisted Design (CAD) with SolidWorks or Fusion360, image analysis software like ImageJ / FIJI, and statistical analysis software like GraphPad PRISM.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Prior experience working with organ-on-chip systems, organoids, and / or bioprinters is a plus. Note : 100% lab based role.
Shift : M-F(40hrs / week)
