Responsible for providing written translation and verbal interpretation from a source language into English language in a court of record in order to ensure that the message is being accurately delivered and understood between citizens and court employees.

Participates in planning of programs, policies or objectives for own work group and department.

Responsibilities

  • Translates documents and related material used in the District and County Courts at Law.
  • Provides information to non-English speaking customers or visitors by telephone and in person.
  • Contacts and schedules outside interpreters for Spanish, other foreign languages and sign languages for District and County Courts at Law.
  • Requisitions the service of interpreters, Processes invoices for payments.
  • Follows changes to State and Federal Laws that regulate interpreting and translating services and communicating these changes to all courts.
  • Plans, develops, and implements language policies, goals, objectives and priorities for the District and County Courts at Law.
  • Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma / GED or higher degree.
  • Candidates must be a Master Licensed Court Interpreter by the Judicial Branch Certification Commission (JBCC) pursuant to Chapter 157 Subchapter C of the Texas Government Code.
  • Three years of experience in translation and interpretation.
  • Experience working with people from a wide variety of backgrounds, cultures, and socioeconomic levels is desirable.
  • Extensive knowledge of legal, highly technical, and colloquial vocabulary in English and Spanish.
  • Strong computer and organizational skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication; interpersonal skills with the ability to deal effectively with the public, other employees, and elected officials.
  • Membership in an interpreting / translation professional association is highly desirable.
  • County employees should not engage in outside employment that interferes with the performance of their County job, does not create a conflict of interest, or is prohibited by law.

SALARY RANGE : $64,500.80 - $80,724.80 yearly based on qualifications

CLOSING DATE : Upon filling position
