Controls Engineer
Job Description
We are searching for a
Controls Engineer with experience in electrical design as well as experience in programming PLCs or motion-controlled systems.
Our Controls Engineers are responsible for designing, programming, updating, and troubleshooting various PLC based control systems.
They are responsible for electrical / controls design modifications to standard equipment and new equipment design. We have a distributed team of engineers that collaborate across our sites on thermoforming packaging solutions.
The ideal candidate is detail oriented, can work in a team environment, has the ability to plan, schedule and problem solve effectively, and can work independently with little or no supervision.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Make necessary electrical panel layout drawings, electrical designs, and electrical CAD schematics to ensure design meets industry and regulatory standards and project requirements.
- Make appropriate calculations, research performance standards and component selection to ensure design specifications are met.
- Design various sections of equipment to meet required specifications.
- Prepare bills of material and other paperwork per internal standards.
- Attend and participate in design reviews for evaluation of work order requirements to design, and cost implications.
- Design and develop machine logic in PLC, operator interface applications and program servo motion controls.
- Check drawings and bills of materials as relates to assigned projects.
- Start-up and debug machine prior to shipment.
- Assists in field start-up and solving machine problems in field.
- Direct various design activities on assigned projects.
- Travel as required for the role. (around 20%)
Requirements
EDUCATION / REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS :
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a minimum of 2 years work experience in electrical design or a technical role.
- Working knowledge of controls (PLC, HMI, and Motion Controlled Programs)
- Working knowledge of electrical engineering design practices.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills on a technical level.
