Position Description
Pilots are responsible for the safe conduct of flights to which they are assigned. Pilots must ensure compliance with all Federal, state, local and foreign regulations, as well as the policies and procedures specified in the company operations manual.
Pilots may also be referenced as "Pilot-in-Command" or "Captain". The more senior pilot will have overall charge of the airplane, unless otherwise assigned by the Chief Pilot.
Pilots execute scheduled flights and are on-call for shorter notice trips. All flights are domestic, and the company planes are based in a hangar in the Chicago area.
Responsibilities
- Comply with schedules, and other directives governing the aircraft's operation
- Ensure that preflight inspections are performed
- Study weather conditions at destination, enroute, alternate airports and departure points, and all applicable NOTAMs
- Prepare flight plans, and ensure that all flight planning requirements have been met
- Ensure that the aircraft is clean and prepared for flight with all provisions on board for the safety and comfort of the passengers
- Review and calculate the aircraft weight and balance, fuel, oil, and oxygen requirements and performance charts
- Supervise in any duties necessary for the smooth, safe and efficient operation of the aircraft
- Make decisions necessary to start, delay flights, or deviate the flight from planned route or destination when operating conditions dictate
- Ensure that a flight will not commence if a flight crew member is incapacitated from performing duties by any cause such as injury, sickness, fatigue, or the effects of any psychoactive substance
- Ensure that the flight will not be continued beyond the nearest suitable aerodrome, when a flight crew member's capacity to perform functions is significantly reduced by impairment of faculties from causes such as fatigue, sickness, or lack of oxygen
- Notify the nearest appropriate authority by the quickest available means of any accident involving the aircraft, resulting in serious injury or death of any person or substantial damage to the aircraft or property
- Ensure the security of the aircraft while in operation
- Provide excellent customer service to passengers by : meeting and greeting passengers, loading baggage onto the aircraft and assisting passengers upon arrival at the destination
- Debrief passengers about safety once aboard
- Complete all post flight duties as specified in the FOM, recording flight times and aircraft defects, journey log book, general declaration and any company specific post-flight duties
- Submit a report to the designated local authority following an act of unlawful interference;
- As soon as possible, report to the appropriate air traffic services (ATS) unit any hazardous weather or flight conditions encountered that are likely to affect the safety of other aircraft;
- Monitor crew performance, sharing knowledge with crew members
- Ensure that suspected communicable diseases are reported promptly to air traffic control, in order to facilitate provision for the presence of any special medical personnel and equipment necessary for the management of public health risks on arrival
- Additional tasks as assigned
Qualifications
- Must hold or be able to obtain an ATP rating
- Must hold a minimum of a Commercial Certificate
- Must hold an airplane Instrument Rating
- Must hold an airplane Multi-Engine Rating
- Must hold a 1st class medical certificate
- A four-year degree is preferred but not mandatory
- A minimum of 4000 hours of flight time, with at least one Jet type rating a G280 type rating is preferred, but not mandatory
