Job Description
PURPOSE OF POSITION
To ensure that the Dental Department patients receive appropriate care in an organized and timely manner.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES
SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Understands policies and procedures governing the responsibilities of the dental assistant staff members as outlined in the policy and procedure manual.
Supervises the work of the Dental
Assistants assigned to work unit. Perform related work as required and assigned.
- Set up provider's schedules in Epic
- Prepare Dental Assistants' daily assignment schedules
- Assists in the interviewing and selection of Dental Assistants and provides orientation and on-the-job training for employees
- Training of Dental Assistants on a "right-to-know'', OHSA guidelines, R.A.C.E. procedures, etc.
- Preparing and signing off purchase requisitions for dental supplies and in-house orders
- Maintain dental equipment and handpieces for repairs
- Coordinate all outside repairs of equipment and handpieces
- Make sure all operatories are cleaned, properly supplied and equipment is in good working order
- Distribution of dental supplies
- Monitor all Dental Assistants' universal precaution barriers
- Maintain the storage supply room
- Keep inventory of dental supplies and equipment and repair parts
- Investigates product recalls requested by the Purchasing Department
- Interview vendors referred by purchasing in regards to new dental equipment and products in the market
- Follow up on all deliveries, exchanges and returned supplies and equipment
- Sign off on Dental Assistants' timesheets, approve manual leave, etc.
- Handle patient complaints, incident reports, and follow up
- Coordinate dental health fairs, outreach programs, and education workshops
- Set up schedules for Dental Assistants' seminars, and training programs
- Cover x-ray and sterilization when short of staff
- Monitor quality assurance for dental x-ray department
- Involved in Quality Assurance for dental infection control and clinic operations
- Sign off on void encounter forms and receipts
- Assist in translation / inform and direct patients
- Arrange translator / interpreter services when needed
- Assure that dental procedures are implemented
- Assist Director of Service with agenda for staff meetings
- Maintain records and related reports on M.S.D.S. for Dental Department
- Responsible for all clinic operations
Minimum Qualifications
1. Graduation from a Senior High School or possession of a High School Equivalency Diploma; and
2. Minimum of three years experience as a Dental Assistant with a least one year of supervisory experience with possession of a good degree of chairside skills and ability to transfer such skills through demonstration and verbal instructions; and
3. Knowledge of concepts and applications of team dentistry; or
4. A satisfactory combination of education, training and experience. However, all candidates must possess a minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalency.
