SPECIFIC AND GENERAL DESCRIPTION :
Receives direction from the Fleet Maintenance Superintendent.
Exercises direct supervision over assigned mechanics.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES :
- Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise and review the work of staff responsible for providing automotive and equipment maintenance and repair services within the Fleet Maintenance Division,
- Participate in the selection of fleet maintenance staff; provide or coordinate staff training; evaluate employee performance,
- Supervise and advise mechanics on equipment maintenance and repairs; prepare and maintain work orders; meet with other fleet maintenance staff regarding equipment needs,
- Select, supervise, train and evaluate staff,
- Diagnose defects and repair a wide variety of automotive and heavy equipment,
Effectively handle a work environment and conditions which involve :
- exposure to dust, dirt, and grease
- exposure to hazardous materials and wastes
- exposure to flammable materials
- exposure to gas fumes and other potentially harmful vapors - working in a confined work area.
EXPERIENCE :
- Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by specialized training in automotive and equipment maintenance and repair.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver's license.
PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT, APPLICANT RECOMMENDED FOR EMPLOYMENT SHALL BE REQUIRED TO SUCCESSFULLY PASS A URINALYSIS AND / OR BLOOD TEST TO SCREEN FOR ALCOHOL AND / OR DRUG ABUSE.
