The Educational Specialist II-Elementary Mathematics is located within the Office of Teaching and Learning and will assist with the development of curriculum, assessments, and professional development aligned to both the Maryland College and Career Ready Standards and the City Schools strategic plan for mathematics.
Serves as a district content expert in all tiers of mathematics instruction for elementary grades.

Essential Functions
- Develops and delivers ongoing professional development around best practices in elementary mathematics instruction.
- Supports the implementation of district mathematics initiatives.
- Participates in the evaluation and selection of instructional materials.
- Supports teachers and school teams as needed with the implementation of mathematics curriculum and best practices.
- Coordinates and develops curriculum and assessments for mathematics.
- Uses data collected to strategically support the needs of teachers and schools in the district.
- Works collaboratively with a highly motivated team from multiple offices to advance teaching and learning in the district.
- Performs and promotes all activities in compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination policies; follows federal laws, state laws, school board policies and the professional standards.

Desired Qualifications
- Master's degree in Education or related field. Degree must be from an accredited college or institution.
- Three years teaching experience in mathematics; experience teaching multiple grade levels preferred; urban experience preferred.
- Valid Maryland State Department of Education Advanced Professional Certificate.
- Three years' experience developing and delivering professional development to teachers to support implementation of the Maryland College and Career-Readiness Standards for Mathematics;
district level experience preferred.
- Experience coaching classroom teachers and teacher teams.
- Strong organization and strategic planning skills; ability to balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced work environment.
- Experience managing large scale projects.
- Knowledge of current research in mathematics best practices.
- Knowledge of current research and best practices in adult learning and facilitation.
- Knowledge of the Maryland Colle g e and Career-Readiness Standards for Mathematics.
- Ability to lead and motivate a productive team of individuals.
- A commitment to educational equity.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient in the use of multiple computer applications including, but not limited to, Office 365, Google Workspace, PD Tracking and reporting software, databases, and Online Professional Learning software, including web-based delivery of professional development.
