The Educational Specialist II-Student Support Teams (SST) provides district-wide guidance and leadership for Student Support Teams.

This involves coordinating and creating support systems and programs to identify the individualized needs of students or groups of students.

The goal is to develop resources and support to meet the needs of the whole child. This role works under the supervision of the Director of Differentiated Learning and the Coordinator of MTSS.

Provides tools, guidance, and professional leadership to support systematic implementation of Tier III interventions addressing academic, attendance, and socio-emotional needs.

Leads the development, expansion, and evaluation of Student Support Team (SST) implementation in City Schools. Implements and supports the development of a problem-solving protocol designed to assess student needs and identify support structures to address those needs.

Provides day-to-day direct services and technical assistance necessary for the implementation of SST. Develops protocols for schools to engage in solutions-oriented conversations designed to identify the root cause of a student's needs and the necessary resources and supports to meet those needs.

Essential Functions

  • Develops and leads the implementation of SST in City Schools.
  • Develops, coordinates, and administers professional development and training in SST.
  • Leads the creation and continued enhancement of tools, guidance, resources, and supplementary materials necessary to effectively communicate and implement SST.
  • Builds the capacity of SST leads and teacher teams through professional development and training.
  • Provides technical support and consultation to central office and school-based teams on implementing SST processes and plans.
  • Determines necessary services to support schools in establishing effective SSTs.
  • Develops and recommends project plans and assists in school-based implementation.
  • Establishes and maintains positive professional relationships with principals, assistant principals, central office staff, and outside agencies necessary for the performance of SST.
  • Maintains knowledge of relevant laws, policies, and procedures concerning SST changes or services available in City Schools.
  • Collaborates and works cross-functionally with central office departments (academic and non-academic) on initiatives that build support systems that support a culture of rigorous learning with increased outcomes for all students.
  • Researches and analyzes data to prepare reports and make recommendations.
  • Performs and promotes all activities in compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination policies; follows federal laws, state laws, school board policies, and professional standards.

Maximum Salary 149774.00

Minimum Salary 91976.00

Desired Qualifications

  • Master's degree in counseling, education, social work, pupil personnel, psychology, or related field. Degree must be from an accredited college or institution.
  • Four years working in a public school system, preferably in an urban setting.
  • Valid Maryland State Department of Education Advanced Professional Certificate.
  • Experience in leading a local SST Program, training, and implementing SST Procedures and Plans.
  • Experience in implementing problem-solving protocols and / or research-based problem-solving approaches.
  • Understanding of the implications of disabilities or impairments for educational setting and instruction.
  • Experience in providing professional development in assessing needs and developing evidence-based strategies in academics, attendance, and behavior.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP).
  • Experience in providing professional development in Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP).
  • Experience in leading, developing, and delivering district-wide professional development.
  • Experience in team building and technical assistance that supports implementation fidelity.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including making effective professional presentations and effectively delivering training.
  • Interpersonal skills that ensure effective team building and understanding of the team process
  • Highly proficient in the knowledge and use of technical computer applications, including Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel, Google Suite, and Google Sheets
  • Excellent time management and organization skills.
  • Effective and demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills.
  • Experience in utilizing data to track and manage processes and to make effective decisions.
