The Site Supervisor reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

The Site Supervisor is responsible with the daily operations of a specifically assigned hospital site and / or Shift of the Security Services Department.

Supports and advises the Program Manager, Security Services for the region on operational tasks. Supervises security operations and systems for their assigned hospital and or shift and off-site locations.

Accountable for campus security strategies, emergency preparedness and response, oversight for their hospital Security Services team, maintaining hospital security systems, partners with outside law enforcement agencies, and collaborates with various NM leaders to cultivate a safe and secure environment for patients, staff and visitors.

Responsbiliites :

  • Responsible for communicating regularly with Security Services leadership, including other Security Supervisors, Program Managers, Manager, and Director regarding departmental needs.
  • Responsible for the dissemination of information to assigned subordinate Security Supervisors (I and II) and Security Officers (I and II).
  • Assists in identifying opportunities for improvement regarding Security Services issues at their site.
  • Responsible for seeking and relaying feedback from the team on departmental feedback and improvements.
  • Oversee the general security monitoring, providing recommendations to ensure compliance with NM and Security Services policies as needed.
  • Provide operational oversight of site-specific camera and access control systems.
  • Maintain personal knowledge of industry standards and technology trends in healthcare security.
  • Responsible for overseeing successful completion of the site’s records, including but not limited to : incident reports, retained video files, and all other departmental files and records.
  • Develop core of competencies for Resource Coordinators and Security Officers for all shifts as it relates to the dynamic accredited healthcare environment.
  • Ensure Security Services employee personnel file documentation is up-to-date at all times.
  • Ensure all site Security Officers have required training completed, assist in the correction of Deficiencies, and the ramifications of falling out of compliance as necessary.
  • Responsible for collaborating with other site leaders to ensure a safe environment.
  • Responsible for deploying and utilizing appropriate Security Services resources at their site and other sites within the system as directed.
  • Act as primary contact for departmental reference for their site’s Security Officers.
  • Assist Regional Security Services Operations Manager with insight to employee action.
  • Oversee activities of their site’s Resource Coordinators and report the status of projects to the departmental leadership.
  • Perform assigned supervisory function to ensure delivery of quality service, maintain employee morale, and identify potential liabilities.
  • Assist in the rollout and education of new processes in a positive manner, along with the development of site and building specific security procedures and policies
  • Conduct ongoing inspections of staff including uniforms, documentation, and job knowledge.
  • Oversee schedule, professional conduct, documentation and review all Security Services related drills.
  • Conduct regular rounds to ensure relationships with Security Services staff and customers.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with customers, such as department Managers and Directors.
  • Responsible for audits and metrics to include, but not limited to : Security Performance and Key Performance Indicators to assist with Security Services policy and procedure compliance.
  • Assist the Regional Security Operations Manager with coaching and corrective action for staff.
  • Respond to emergency situations as needed.
  • Investigate all reported occurrences from staff or incident reports and ensure proper documentation.
  • Support the needs of patients and visitors within the healthcare environment.
  • Assist in creating a culture of patients first to help support NM’s mission.
  • Train, mentor, supervise, and develop subordinates.
  • Be the first contact for emergency agencies such as, but not limited to, police department or fire department.
  • Maintain constant communication with the Regional Security Operations Manager as it relates to day-to-day operations.
  • Fill open vacancies for special details and departmental needs.
  • Assist with annual employee reviews, midyear employee reviews, and competency evaluations.
  • Complete departmental and Environment of Care assessments as directed.
  • Oversee the onboarding of new hires and Field Training Officer programs including orientation, internal training, IAHSS testing, and annual mandatory education and competencies
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required :

  • High-school diploma or GED
  • Successful completion of the IAHSS Basic exam within 90 days of hire
  • Successful completion of the IAHSS Advanced exam within 180 days of hire
  • Successful completion of the Supervisor exam within 270 days of hire
  • Maintain IAHSS Basic, Advanced and Supervisor certifications
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through AHA within 9 months of hire
  • Interpersonal and communication skills necessary to interact effectively with a variety of individuals including employees, medical staff, patients, visitors, police, and others
  • Writing skills necessary to complete reports and paperwork that meets departmental standards
  • Physical ability to stand and walk during most of shift patrolling hospital buildings and grounds
  • Physical ability to respond quickly to emergency situations that may include stair climbing or other physical exertion in the protection of patients, visitors, and staff
  • Physical ability to lift / assist with heavy objects occasionally
  • Physical ability and knowledge to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Previous experience in a health care safety and security role or related experience
  • 3+ years of leadership experience
  • May require Trustworthy and Reliable requirements of NRC Order EA-12-194 depending on area of responsibility
  • Physical Demands : A physical demands test provides an objective way to identify if a candidate can meet the essential tasks for the job the candidate has applied for at Northwestern Medicine.

The testing protocol was established with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH).
