POSITION SUMMARY : Oversee the reporting integrity, functional integrity, and accuracy of CMA and the CMA Foundation’s financial records.
Work closely with the Vice President of Finance and Accounting to manage day-to-day operations of the department. Manage the annual budget process, forecast process, month-end close, and year-end close.
Prepare financial reports and investment reporting packages. Manage all tax filings except employment taxes. Coordinate with the audit and tax teams to provide requested documents required to prepared the audited financial statements and tax returns.
Serve as the dedicated in-house expert for maintaining the accounting and budgeting software.
This position is based in Nashville, TN and requires a minimum of 3 days of in-person work each week.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
Oversee the accurate reporting of CMA and the CMA Foundation’s financial standing with appropriate financial statements and according to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Ensure that internal controls are followed.
- Directly supervise the Manager, Accounts Payable.
- Direct the monthly General Ledger closing processes, review, and reconciliation of accounts.
- Manage the monthly closing processes for Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable.
- Oversee the annual year-end close, ensuring that all transactions have been booked and entries are made to accrue outstanding expenses and revenue.
Compare actual to budget and research significant variances to ensure items have not been overlooked or provide appropriate explanations for these variances.
- Direct all accounts payable functions, including entering invoices, posting batches, printing and mailing vendor checks, maintaining vendor files, and issuing and filing 1099-MISC and 1099-NEC forms.
- Direct all accounts receivable functions including preparation and sending of CMA invoices, data entry of cash receipts, analysis of account balances, and past due collections.
- Prepare the monthly financial and investment reporting package for the Finance and Audit Committee.
- Assist the Vice President of Accounting and Finance with preparation of slides and other materials needed for the Finance and Audit Committee and Board meetings.
- Oversee administration of corporate credit cards for both American Express and Elan credit cards, including issuing new cards, cancelling cards, and increasing limits approved by department head and Vice President of Accounting and Finance.
Ensure the review of monthly expense reports is completed in accordance with the policy, and transactions are imported into the accounting software system.
- Work with the Vice President of Accounting and Finance to update, maintain, and create financial models.
- Establish relationships with the external auditors and assist in the preparation of the annual audited financial statements and workpapers.
Work with the external auditors throughout the year to implement any recommendations.
- Establish relationships with the external tax team and assist with the annual tax return preparation.
- Supervise the financial accounting of membership dues.
- Engage with CMA’s banking relationship and merchant account managers to resolve any discrepancies, stay abreast of new and enhanced product offerings and ensure that CMA is receiving services necessary to operate efficiently and cost-effectively.
- Oversee CMA’s effective use of accounting software, in collaboration with IT.
- Serve as the in-house expert for the accounting and budgeting software.
- Provide support, training, and troubleshooting for accounting systems.
- Manage Accounting and Finance team’s work with Event Operations team and external box office during events to ensure that all ticket income and other income is collected according to box office sales reports and reported on CMA financials appropriately.
- Work with the Vice President of Accounting and Finance to develop and enhance the functions of the accounting software system and budget process to deliver a seamless product to users and reporting of financials to Senior Leadership, Finance & Audit Committee, Executive Committee and Board.
- Establish relationships with the investment managers and assist the accounting team with any reporting questions or discrepancies.
- Serve as responder for ad-hoc requests from Executives or Committees as directed by Vice President, Accounting and Finance.
- Oversee the creation and maintenance of department process and procedures.
- Perform other functions and responsibilities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS :
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of broad experience in finance and accounting. Advanced knowledge and experience of accounting concepts and techniques.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in supervising and directing the work of accounting and finance staff members.
- Seven or more years’ experience in GL, AP, AR, account analysis and financial statement preparation.
- Thorough knowledge of accounting principles, budgeting processes, and the ability to manage resources within budget boundaries.
- Experience with Sage Intacct and Adaptive Insights preferred but not required.
- Proficiency in maintaining and utilizing accounting and budgeting software, with the ability to serve as the in-house expert.
- Familiarity with VBA and Python, or a demonstrated ability to quickly learn and apply technical skills, is highly desirable.
