SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Located just outside of Seattle, WA, Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech) was founded in 1949, and is the only public institute of technology in the state of Washington.
LWTech offers 12 bachelor's degrees, 42 associate degrees, and 70 professional certificates in 41 areas of study, including STEM-focused programs in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.
LWTech serves the Eastside and is located within the city of Kirkland, which is situated on the eastern shore of Lake Washington.
Kirkland is home to companies such as GoDaddy, Google, Astronics and EvergreenHealth, and the college is within minutes from Microsoft and Nintendo.

SUMMARY OF POSITION :
LWTech’s High School Programs is searching for a highly competent, equity-minded, and collaborative individual to join our team as a High School Programs Advisor.
The Advisor provides academic advising, case management, and educational and career planning for a diverse population of prospective and enrolled students.
The High School Programs Advisor works collaboratively with other members of the team, college staff, and faculty to support student success and attainment of a high school diploma and / or postsecondary credential.
This position is responsible for supporting all high school programs at Lake Washington Institute of Technology. This is an exempt, over-time eligible position that reports to the Dean of High School Programs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Academic Advising and Registration
Provide direct, comprehensive academic advising to assigned caseload of students in the areas of academic advising, social / emotional support, career guidance, and completion through in-person, virtual, and written formats.
Advising and support are inclusive of, but not limited, to the following :
- Evaluate high school and college transcripts
- Evaluate college placement
- Understand and clearly explain high school graduation, college degree, and professional certificate requirements
- Create academic plans for all college programs
- Process registration requests in high school and college classes
- Assist with transfer & career planning
- Make timely and relevant referrals to internal and external resources, including other high school completion programs such as HS+ and Grad Alliance
- Complete student intake and exit processes; conduct interviews as needed
- Support general advising drop-in hours by providing general academic advising assistance to high school students in all LWTech programs.
Wrap Around Student Support
- Collaborate with High School Programs faculty and staff to monitor and manage student’s academic progress, attendance, behavior, and completion of programs.
- Facilitate navigation of college systems and resources including referring students to resources
- Serve as a student advocate within the college community
- Notify parents / guardians and students promptly of any concerns
- Communicate regularly with students; send updates as needed
Program Support
Support operation of High School Programs and LWTech, ensuring efficacy, growth, equity, record-keeping in adherence to policies and state law.
Key responsibilities include :
- Maintain working knowledge of high school graduation and dropout reengagement requirements; attend workshops, conferences, and networking events for the Open Doors program.
- Ensure areas of responsibility operate within the policies and procedures of the college, Lake Washington Technical Academy, and applicable governing agencies.
- Assist High School Programs Dean / Principal to develop and maintain departmental policies and procedures that relate to student persistence and completion, enrollment, student well-being, student crisis management, accreditation, high school graduation
- Collaborate with faculty and deans through regular communication about program changes, details, student progression, and issues about program sequence, program changes, and student experience.
- Advise and inform college staff about high school services and policies; identify potential problem areas and make recommendations
- Prepare reports, including attendance, for internal and external sources.
- Represent the college at professional and community organizations; participate in professional conferences and in-services.
- Regular and satisfactory attendance and punctuality required; some evening and weekend shifts may be required as needed.
Other related job duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Sufficient combination of education, work, and lived experience to demonstrate ability to meet the following expectations (generally, competitive candidates will have a bachelor’s degree or higher and two or more years of advising or related experience in higher education) :
- Evaluate and interpret transcripts for high school and college level academics
- Effectively work with individuals of varied ethnicity, ages, educational backgrounds, and abilities
- Apply student development theory, trauma-informed care through high school and college advising
- Use technology to improve services to students
- Superior ability to work collaboratively as part of a team as well as independently
- Confident and professional written and verbal communication abilities and experience
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Being multilingual, with proficiency in Spanish, Ukrainian, Portuguese and Chinese is preferred.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Compensation & Work Schedule :
Salary is $4,863 per month. Working hours are typically 7 : 30 a.m. 4 : 30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Remote / Teleworking is available 1-2 days per week.
