Summary :

The Registered Dietitian plans, organizes, develops and directs the nutritional care of the residents. This is done in accordance with current federal, state and local standards, as well as guidelines and regulations that govern the facility.

This position is responsible for ensuring that quality nutritional services are being provided on a daily basis to residents and staff.

The Registered Dietitian acts as a resource to the department manager in assisting that the department is maintained in a safe and sanitary manner.

It is the duty of all employees to promote and support a resident centered care environment that ensures the treatment of all residents, family members, visitors, fellow employees and customers with kindness, respect, and dignity.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

1. Commits to the Vincentian Collaborative System (VCS) mission to nurture and sustain a ministry of compassionate care that preserves the human dignity of persons within a diverse and changing society.

2. Upholds and promotes the VCS values of spirituality, compassion, quality, dignity, collaboration, advocacy and stewardship.

3. Promotes and supports a resident centered care environment that ensures the treatment of all residents, family members, visitors, fellow employees and customers with kindness, respect, and dignity.

4. Adheres to all facility and department work rules, policies and procedures.

5. Must have the ability to plan organize, develop, implement and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, procedures of the department.

6. Assists in assuring department policies and procedures are current, accurate and in compliance with all laws and regulations.

7. Completes and / or reviews the dietary component of the resident assessment. This includes the Resident Assessment Instrument (MDS) and other authorized facility assessments.

8. Develops and reviews a written dietary plan of care that identifies the dietary problems / needs of the resident and the goals to be accomplished for each dietary problem / needs identified.

Review goals for modification, as necessary.

9. Must be knowledgeable of dietary practices and procedures, as well as the laws, regulations and guidelines governing dietary functions in long-term care.

10. Assist in developing policies and procedures governing the operations of the Dietary Services Department including nutrition care.

11. Responsible for department compliance with quality assurance, safety, infection control and other departmental and facility policies and procedures.

12. Completes and / or reviews the dietary component of the resident assessment.

13. Performs job functions in a manner that promotes the efficient use of resources.

14. May act as manager in the absence of the Food and Nutrition Services Manager.

15. Responsible for meeting all state and federal guidelines pertaining to the position of Registered Dietitian.

16. Attends meetings where Dietary Department input is advantageous, functions as an active member of the interdisciplinary team.

17. Performs all other duties as assigned.

Education / Experience :

1. Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred.

2. Must be registered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the American Dietetic Association and / or licensed in Dietetics by the State of Pennsylvania.

3. Must possess a current, unencumbered and active Dietitian / Nutritionist license to practice as a Dietitian in Pennsylvania.

4. Must be knowledgeable of dietary practices, procedures, and regulations that apply to long-term care.

5. Experience in long-term care preferred.

6. Supervisory experience preferred.
