Job Description :
Under the direct supervision of the Dean of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, the Lab Technician is responsible for supporting and enhancing the College's Energy Systems Technology Program (HVAC and Building Automation).
The incumbent will work together with all faculty and staff to create an atmosphere of trust and respect in which all can succeed.
This candidate will maintain the Energy Systems lab environment and equipment, and assist in the instruction of students in the use of technical equipment.
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to :
- Maintain a safe and proper operation in the lab and preserve the shop integrity.
- Ensures utilization and proper maintenance of specialized learning equipment and materials.
- Ensures proper supplies are available in the shop.
- Restock inventory and provide material list.
- Set up required equipment and tools for weekly labs prior to the start of the lab sessions.
- Assist in obtaining tools and supplies from storage room when needed.
- Assist faculty in carrying out moderately complex technical routines with minimal supervision or instruction.
- Monitor students during lab sessions (proper safety gear during the lab and safe behavior) Assist in the instruction of students in the use, operation, safety, and maintenance of technical apparatus and equipment.
- Day and Evening hours may be required Monday through Friday
- Place required work orders for building maintenance.
- Performs special projects and related responsibilities as initiated and requested.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements :
- 2+ Years of full-time or equivalent part-time experience in laboratory work or any equivalent combination of the required experience and substitutions below : An Associate's degree or higher with a major in HVAC / Energy Systems field may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experienceThe successful completion of one year of full-time , or equivalent part-time, education toward an HVAC / Energy Systems field may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experienceThe successful completion of a training program for laboratory technicians may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience
- Ability to instruct students in the proper use of moderately complex technical equipment.
Preferred Requirements
- Massachusetts oil burner technician license.
- EPA certification.
- OSHA 10 certification.

Work is generally performed in a classroom or lab setting. Work involves a high activity level and pace, and competing time demands.
Essential tasks require typing / keyboard skills, phone usage, and reading, speaking, and listening. Use office equipment and computer keyboards requiring eye-hand coordination and finger dexterity.
Balancing, crouching, grasping, pulling, reaching and stooping may also be required
