Description : JOB PURPOSE :
JOB PURPOSE :
Transporting patients to and from procedure areas including patients that must be accompanied by ACLS personnel.Performing the following tasks : hemostasing arterial / venous puncture sites, prepping patients, cleaning instruments / rooms, preparing sterile trays, working with materials and supplies.
Assisting with the day-to-day activities necessary to increase the overall efficiency of the lab.Providing direct and indirect cardiovascular clinical care during established procedures and sedation for adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
Qualifications :
MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED :
High school graduation or GED equivalent.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED :
Two years of related work experience in a health care facility to meet Paramedic level of training or equivalent.
MINIMUM LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW :
Licensure by the state of Georgia EMS Authority and must BE CPR and BCLS certified.Must achieve ACLS certification within 90 days of employment.
Must obtain EMS National Registry within 18 months of employment.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS :
Experience in obtaining medical history, performing physical examination of patients and providing emergency care during transport preferred.
Must have interest in training for Cath Lab Tech at 18 months and sit for (and pass) RCIS within one year after starting Cath Lab training.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :
1.Transports patients to and from procedure areas including patients that must be accompanied by ACLS personnel.
A.Maintains ACLS certification.
B.Maintains patient privacy at all times.
C.Identifies patients by full name and DOB prior to transporting.
D.Monitors patients during transport for any arrhythmias or distress.
E.Ensures patients are comfortable and safe prior to leaving the bedside.
F.Gives and / or receives report prior to transporting a patient to the procedure area or upon returning to the nursing unit.
2.Operates and shows proficient in use of required equipment.
A.Ensures proper operation of defibrillators and portable monitoring equipment.
B.Maintains knowledge of and operates the hospital tube system.
C.Mains proficiency in the use of vascular access devices as well as vascular closure devices.
D.Ensures knowledge of the ACOM and file server.
3.Maintains proficiency in monitoring vital signs and arterial / venous hemostasis.
A.Ensures compliance with department policy regarding sterile technique and the use of personal protective equipment.
B.Assesses patient knowledge and understanding of procedures, providing ongoing age-appropriate patient education.
C.Maintains knowledge and technical skills for hemostasing arterial / venous puncture sites and can adequately recognize signs of a hematoma.
D.Maintains knowledge of coronary anatomy and can adequately interpret life threatening arrhythmias and can follow protocol for assistance in a timely fashion.
E.Facilitates patient flow by checking groin sites, IV status, and preparing paperwork.
F.Ensures knowledge of the ACOM and file server.
4.Directs information to the Cath Lab team appropriately. monitoring vital signs and arterial / venous hemostasis.
A.Maintains constant communication with the Team Leader and the patient flow coordinator in order to expedite quality patient care.
B.Ensures patient information is communicated in the continuum of care.
C.Performs appropriately in an emergency and / or difficult situation by remaining calm, notifying appropriate personnel, and initiating the correct action.
5.Performs miscellaneous functions.
A.Assists in the AM / PM checklists for each procedure room and assist with the end of monthsafety checklist and documents the results accurately.
B.Assists with general cleaning in the labs.
C.Facilitates patient flow by running errands as needed.
D.Ensures adherence to departmental policies and procedures regarding radiation safety / monitoring and standard precautions.
E.Maintains knowledge with inventory and location of supplies; uses supplies judiciously and in a cost-effective manner.
F.Directs the family members to waiting area and patient care rep during procedures / relays appropriate patient information to family post procedure, while complying with all HIPPA regulations.
6.Ensures accurate documentation.
A.Monitors accurately and records all procedural information into computer database.
B.Maintains documents and files on all hemostasis data including hematoma checklist when appropriate.
C.Correctly charts vital signs during transport and hemostasis.
D.Fulfills required annual clinical and / or hospital related competencies.
E.adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
Basic PC computer knowledge.
Requires tact, discretion, diplomacy and ability to work effectively with others.
Able to communicate appropriately through effective written and oral communication.
Able to work under stressful conditions and frequent interruptions
Possesses sound judgement, is highly motivated, and reacts well in emergencies.
