Under general direction of the Physical Plant Engineer, the Senior Building Engineer directs and supervises University plumbers, electricians, preventive maintenance mechanics, and refrigeration mechanics engaged in the operation, maintenance and repair of building support equipment in assigned buildings.
Will assist in co-ordination with other Physical Facility Departments. In addition, they will manage contractors hired by the University.
Plans, directs, and supervises the work of assigned personnel and directly participates in the engineering tasks associated with routine and emergency maintenance and / or installation of large heating, cooling and air handling equipment in assigned buildings.
Establishes standards and procedures and develops work schedules of assigned staff to insure proper operation. Inspects physical condition and appearance of building support equipment to insure proper operation.
Reviews job orders and project work sheets to determine equipment, parts, and supply requirements and cost information. Prepares and processes requests for purchase of supplies, parts and equipment.
Keeps records of usage. Investigates complaints regarding service and takes corrective action. Advises Physical Plant Engineer of problem areas and recommends solutions.
Organizes and directs training programs for current and new employees, resolves personnel problems, screens applicants, recommends new hires, dismissals, transfers and promotions.
Records data concerning work assignments and personnel actions and keeps time records. Insures the proper working conditions and maintenance of shop test equipment and tools.
Performs varied engineering tasks including, but not limited to : installation of new and modified systems; repair of plumbing, electrical, heating and cooling systems;
and operation and preventive maintenance of equipment supporting the physical plant. Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
Graduate of a standard high school or equivalent. Seven years of combined experience and training in the maintenance and operation of physical plant systems, including the associated plumbing, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and electrical systems.
Possession of a refrigerant certificate Type I and II issued by an EPA approved agency. Should possess or be working toward a License issued by the State of Oklahoma for HVAC, Electrical or Plumbing.
Ability to read and interpret engineer drawings, operation and maintenance manuals and perform preventive maintenance on physical plant equipment.
Possession of a valid Oklahoma driver license. Must be able to perform strenuous work requiring lifting weights up to, but not limited to, 50 pounds, climbing, ladder work, crawling, over- head work, kneeling, walking and standing for extended periods of time.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :
Successful and Proven experience as a supervisor in past employment. Ten years of experience in the maintenance and operation of physical plant systems.
Vocational training in physical plant installation and maintenance areas. Possession of one or more License issued by the State of Oklahoma for HVAC, Electrical or Plumbing.
Should possess or be working toward a Contractor’s License for HVAC, Electrical or Plumbing.
SALARY RANGE :
Commensurate with experience.
