About the Office
The Office of Strategic Communications & Stakeholder Engagement (Communications) ensures that the public and all key audiences and stakeholders know about the agency's public protection role and can access the State Bar's services, resources, and shared decision-making processes.
Communications responds to media and general inquiries, maintains the State Bar's website and social media channels, and produces various internal and external communications content.
The Ideal Candidate
The State Bar of California’s Office of Strategic Communications & Stakeholder Engagement seeks a digital communicator with a passion for public service.
You enjoy flexing between several creative and analytical tasks needed to keep a small communications team humming. These include daily monitoring of news media and social media, developing coverage and metrics reports, replying to social posts, emails, and voicemails from the public, updating our website and processing video recordings of public meetings for online posting, preparing social media posts that can include text, graphics, and short animations or video, and expanding the types of video content the State Bar produces on its own.
You enjoy working within a collaborative team to deliver innovative, high-quality digital outreach and education efforts for multiple audiences and stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Monitor, share and tag media coverage daily, prepare weekly News Roundup using the Meltwater platform, and collate and chart various data elements in the office’s quarterly metrics report.
- Process video recordings of public meetings, upload to YouTube, make occasional edits.
- Draft social media posts, developing creative assets using Canva, Bitly, and other tools. Schedule through Meltwater.
- Perform simple website updates, applying copyedits for State Bar style, ensuring accuracy, and handling PDF content properly to ensure ADA accessibility.
- Shoot and edit short video content and create animations from start to finish, incorporating feedback from multiple reviewers.
- Road-test various AI creative tools for adoption in the office.
- Perform other duties as assigned within the office, for example, drafting content using AI tools and creating YouTube descriptions and playlists.
Preferred Qualifications :
- A minimum of two years professional experience in communications, public relations, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience and a portfolio of examples in writing, public relations analytics and campaign planning, social media posts, and video.
- Knowledge of social media (the State Bar’s current channels include LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, X, and YouTube) as well as web content strategy and search engine optimization.
- Experience with web content management systems, social media tools, graphics tools, Adobe Acrobat for PDF creating and editing, and video processing and editing tools.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
- Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with the public and internal clients / colleagues at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive matters.
- Strong remote collaboration and remote working skills.
- Familiarity with the State Bar of California’s mission and role in the judicial branch.
- Graphic design experience a plus.
- Communications experience in government or the legal community a plus.
- Applicants will be required to submit samples produced hands on and take an editing test.
Definition
Under general supervision, the Program Analyst performs a variety of analytical, technical, and administrative duties in assigned State Bar divisions / units.
Distinguishing Characteristics
The Program Analyst classification is a journey-level professional classification distinguished from the lower level Program Coordinator in that the latter is focused on administrative coordination, whereas the Program Analyst is the professional class performing analysis and technical assistance.
Examples of Essential Duties
Duties may include, but are not limited to the following :
- Performs professional work in support of State Bar programs and services within the various State Bar divisions / units, as assigned, involving the knowledge, interpretation, and application of State Bar policies, rules, regulations, and procedures.
- Researches information by identifying, locating and extracting relevant data in order to obtain sufficient, valid and reliable data for analysis and decision making purposes.
- Reviews processes and maintains program transactions, records and other documents; assists in the preparation and maintenance of statistical data, reports, correspondence, special studies, and conducts research.
- Participates in a variety of complex and detailed programmatic responsibilities involving problem solving.
- Evaluates program effectiveness by comparing outcomes to goals in order to determine whether to take corrective actions or recommend modification to processes and procedures.
- Performs research into program and quality control regulations and procedures; prepares reports on findings; identifies problems of non-compliance;
recommends corrective action regarding discrepancies.
- Conducts audits to determine if there are program inconsistencies or non-compliance.
- Provides input in developing and evaluating program policies and procedures and evaluates and proposes changes concerning the methods of operation.
- May perform a number of other similar or related duties which may not be specifically included within this position description, but which are consistent with the general level of the job.

Minimum Qualifications :
Education :
Bachelor’s degree in a field that develops skills related to essential duties, or a combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the duties of the position.
Experience :
Two (2) years of experience in data collection and evaluation, research or performance or financial analysis, grant compliance in a public sector, legal or nonprofit environment, or equivalent.
Applicants who meet the Minimum Qualifications will be required to successfully complete the State Bar’s selection process for this classification.
License, Certificate, Registration Requirements :
