Job Description

An Account Director provides leadership to the Account Management service team in defining marketing objectives and creates the strategic plan for using holistic communications to achieve the client’s objectives.

A Director plans and directs the implementation of all client projects so that they run smoothly and flawlessly. Ensures all timelines, budgets and client expectations are met or exceeded.

Manages client’s budget to deliver the greatest value for the client’s dollars. Builds trust and acts as an advisor for internal and external clients.

Primary Responsibilities

Clients

  • Directly manages all aspects of high-level projects with client.
  • Acts as primary client advisor for strategic marketing.
  • Communicates with client regularly to set project expectations, negotiate deliverables and obtain updates on the client’s business.
  • Builds strong, trusting client relationships that go beyond social and build hunger for bold, untested ideas.
  • Creates innovative, business solutions based on expert knowledge of the client’s business, industry, market trends and encourages new ideas from direct reports.
  • Has global knowledge of client and brand initiatives, also has a grasp on client competitors.
  • Analyzes and communicates in market results and monitors brand threats and opportunities.
  • Is an expert in the client’s business, industry and relevant brands.
  • Continuously integrates and leverages knowledge of client’s business, industry and market trends to create innovative communications ideas that move the client’s business forward.
  • Identifies opportunities and makes suggestions for action.
  • Leads initiatives to solve client’s business issues.
  • Assists clients with creating yearly brand plan.
  • Develops brand positioning profile and architecture.
  • Provides input to client updates and in-marking tracking.
  • Develops initiatives to grow client / agency business.
  • Presents ideas with clarity and persuasive impact.
  • Projects optimism and calm in the face of challenges.
  • Resolves escalated issues, as needed.

Creative

  • Provides guidance for internal team during development of creative brief.
  • Oversees execution of brand idea from initial concept through final measurement.
  • Makes suggestions for broadening the range of strategies and tactics employed on a given project or brand.
  • Ensures creative product is developed according to deliverables.
  • Provides meaningful feedback on the creative brief, exercises creative influence.
  • Conducts testing meeting; identifies key learnings and creative implications.
  • Advises on account implications of using new strategies or tactics.

Project Management

  • Explores media options to determine the highest value for the client.
  • Easily visualizes how ideas will play out in the marketplace and can create optimal plan for meeting budget and timing parameters.
  • Determines alternate methods of meeting project deadlines / goals.
  • Works with head legal counsel to resolve any issues that arise.
  • Develops yearly deliverables plan and production budget with input from necessary agency partners.
  • Anticipates issues in the creative and production processes and work to avoid them.
  • Continuously improves agency execution by leveraging business knowledge and knowledge of the client’s business objectives;

ensures that other team members do the same.

  • Partners with Executive Producer to determine opportunities to pool production resources across projects and start creative production early if possible.
  • Gains support and ownership of all key stakeholders to execute project plans on time and budget.
  • Reviews timelines and project plans weekly with Production.
  • Maintains quality assurance and develops ideas for continuous improvement.
  • Works in tandem with GM and Finance, knowledgeably manages the P&L, flagging issues.
  • Looks across plan to maximize clients budget.
  • Identifies opportunities to reduce costs.
  • Steps in on day-to-day tasks, as needed based on Account Supervisor workload and / or experience.

Leadership

  • Reinforces roles and accountabilities internally and with the client.
  • Creates a positive agency / team culture.
  • Encourages the team to contribute new, innovative ideas for improving the agency’s strategic competitive advantage.
  • Identifies opportunities to incorporate sister agencies and ensures strategic alignment so that the best ideas get to market.
  • Guides, advises, assists and stimulates all team members with the explicit goal of developing the next generation of account management talent at the agency.
  • Creates opportunities for individuals to develop; performs timely evaluations of direct reports.
  • Helps people see how they fit into the account’s and agency’s vision.
  • Confronts others constructively on important issues and problems.
  • Deals well with conflict and overcomes objections.
  • Stands up for own viewpoints, actions or decisions, even in the face of strong disagreement and skillfully overcomes objections.
