BAE Systems, Inc.’s Tactical Solutions (TS) Strategic Business Unit (SBU) seeks a senior leader to refine and communicate business strategy, plan and execute high-level customer engagement strategy, lead new business activities and capture for multi-mission area, cross business, and highly competitive efforts.
The position reports to the VP & GM of TS and is responsible for developing the TS strategic plan and leading implementation of strategic actions.
As a senior leader in the Space and Mission Systems (SMS) sector of the company, this position interacts with all internal organizations and customers, contributes to BAE Systems, Inc.
strategic planning, and represents TS and BAE Systems, Inc. at aerospace industry events.
The TS Strategic Business Unit focuses on designing, developing and bringing to production systems in support of tactical missions and platforms.
The Tactical Solutions Strategic Business Unit delivers mission system solutions, from specialized antennas to electro-optical technologies, to the warfighter.
Our systems enhance the performance of various military platforms, from aircraft and land vehicles to ships and satellites, and give warfighters the advantage they need to take action, identify targets and defend against evolving threats.
What You’ll Do :
STRATEGY : Develop and direct implementation of the TS business strategy and ensure alignment across the three TS mission areas.
Partner with BAE Systems SMS Strategic Operations (StratOps) to integrate the TS strategy into the BAE Systems SMS Strategic Plan and Integrated Business Plan (IBP).
OPPORTUNITY CAPTURE : Incorporate proven BAE Systems, Inc. capture processes and industry best practices into a well-defined and measurable capture process tailorable to all TS competitive pursuits.
Lead the proposal operations team and provide capture team mentoring and training. Serve as the responsible gate authority to release Bid & Proposal funding in alignment with BAE Systems, Inc.
business management processes.
BUSINESS PIPELINE : In partnership with the Mission Area Directors, Advanced System Managers and Program Managers, support opportunity identification and qualification, technology transition business case development and lead continuous market assessment outside established customer sets.
It is expected that the Strategic Development Director will contribute to writing white papers, RFI responses and proposals.
- CONTACT PLAN : Coordinate TS customer engagement planning and the execution of an internal / external communications plan in partnership with StratOps and coordinated across all BAE Systems sectors.
- CROSS-MA, SBU & SECTOR : Develop and mature business partnerships across BAE Systems, Inc. Identify synergy opportunities and lead the coordination of strategic activities to maximize the value for BAE Systems, Inc.
Develop and maintain business rhythms and working relationships with the other BAE Systems, Inc. Sector Business Development organizations.
- MEASURE PERFORMANCE : Identify, track and report new business metrics. Lead the implementation of actions to improve efficiency and business growth outcomes.
- TEAM MANAGEMENT : Manage a small team of Business Development Managers, including personnel and staffing decisions, budget responsibility, cultural advocacy, and performance management.
- Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company.
Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
Perform other duties as necessary.
On-Site Work Environment : This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location.
Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.
Working Conditions :
- Work is performed in an office environment, laboratory, cleanroom, or production floor.
- Work Location : Due to the classified nature of the work, it is expected that the majority of this work will be performed in the office at BAE Systems, Inc.
facilities or on business travel, often at customer sites.
Work Location : Westminster.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
- BS / BA in related field plus 15 years or more related experience.
- Each higher-level degree, , Master’s Degree or , may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education.
Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
- A current, active TS / SCI security clearance is required.
- Proven track record of driving new business and expanding existing relationships through successful capture of large programs using industry recognized capture processes.
- Technical experience with military tactical platforms, weapons systems or demonstrated success transitioning TRL 5 / 6 technologies into production.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Deep familiarity with DoD planning and budgetary processes.
- Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills in relevant business environments with excellent collaboration skills.
Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range : $181000 - $250000
Please note : This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to : business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
