Position Summary
The Activity Assistant is responsible for assisting with activities for the residents of the nursing facility in accordance with each individual’s total plan of care.
General Purpose
The general purpose of the Activity Assistant position is to evaluate the residents’ abilities from information obtained from the medical records, other staff and one-on-one meetings with residents for facilitating scheduled activities on and off the units to restore, remediate or rehabilitate in order to improve functioning and independence as well as reduce or eliminate the effects of illness or disability.

Position Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following :
Participates in programming and projects which assist in improving quality of life of residents and staff.
Assist with activities for the residents.
Encourages participation of residents in all types of quality of life and developmental activities.
Assists with transporting residents.
Visit assigned residents one-to-one on a weekly basis.
Assist at mealtimes.
Accompany residents to off-unit activities.
Lead active, passive or sensory activities with the residents.
Accompany residents on bus trips
Instruct and supervise volunteers.
Maintain activity supplies on each unit in a neat and orderly manner.
Assist in planning in facility-wide programs.
- Maintains a safe work environment and exhibit safe work practices in accordance with Facility policies and procedures, including infection control techniques to prevent the spread of communicable diseases.
- Maintains knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations, as well as adheres to, upholds, and enforces all facility policies and procedures.
- Attends all department meetings and / or educational programs as scheduled.
- Performs additional functions or duties, as assigned.
Essential Knowledge, Skills and Ability
Education / Certifications / Experience
- EDUCATION : High school diploma or GED is required.
- CERTIFICATION : Not required.
EXPERIENCE : Preferred 1 year experience in social / recreational programs, in nursing home or assisted living / personal care setting.
