About the Job

The Center for Race, Indigeneity, Disability, Gender, and Sexuality (RIDGS) Studies occasionally hires part-time and / or short-term employees (Temporary / Casual, Job Code 0001) to provide administrative, communications, and events support, as assigned and in consultation with the director and program coordinator.

These are part-time, hourly positions.

These positions support strategic planning & program management, communications initiatives, technical and non-technical projects, and grants-related projects, research, and reporting.

These positions also may develop communication and marketing plans for internal and external audiences in consultation with center staff, and participate in the planning and delivery of assigned programs and programs related to the Center's grant projects, academic programming, and outreach initiatives.

These positions take work direction from the director and program coordinator, and must be able to complete assignments independently.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

BA / BS degree or a combination of related education and work experiences to equal four years; demonstrated ability to apply knowledge and skill to a recurring task or activity with an emphasis on precision and timeliness of execution.

Academic and educational background in the humanistic social sciences with an emphasis on race, indigeneity, disability, gender, and / or sexuality studies.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior successful work experience working in a research center or department in the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Minnesota.

Advanced degree and / or equivalent educational background in the humanistic social sciences with an emphasis on race, indigeneity, disability, gender, and / or sexuality studies.

Experience coordinating large-scale projects and developing new programs. Experience writing grants, helping to develop grant budgets, and monitoring timelines.

About the Department

Established in 2015, the Race, Indigeneity, Disability, Gender & Sexuality Initiative (RIDGS) was created to support innovative research, teaching, and community-building for scholars engaged with issues of race, indigeneity, gender, and sexuality.

RIDGS is dedicated to bringing faculty and students together to pursue lines of inquiry that challenge systems of power and inequality, assert human dignity, and imagine social transformation.

RIDGS is an inclusive, lively collective that supports transformational, intersectional scholarship in multiple ways. First, it provides space and resources for affiliated faculty and graduate students to engage in and share their work by providing small grants to support research groups, programming funds, and staff support for grant writing and event planning.

The Center for RIDGS Studies is part of the Institute for Global Studies (IGS) in the College of Liberal Arts. IGS connects students, scholars, and communities dedicated to social justice, understanding, and transforming our globalized world.

IGS offers an interdisciplinary undergraduate major and minor intended to foster innovative problem solving by providing students with a variety of methods and analytic tools.

Students are encouraged to develop new perspectives that combine diverse ways of knowing the world. IGS strives to :

  • Create an environment for students and scholars at the University of Minnesota to investigate the sets of interrelated processes forming today's increasingly interdependent world.
  • Provide a vibrant curriculum for students, bring together scholars from diverse disciplines, and work with the community to create partnerships examining global issues.
  • Prepare students for global citizenship by offering an innovative and relevant curriculum.
  • Put great minds to work on issues of global significance by supporting interdisciplinary research centers, research collaboratives, speakers' series, and colloquia.
  • Make connections across cultural, geographic, and disciplinary boundaries by providing professional development for educators and nurturing community partnerships.

About the College of Liberal Arts

Home to the arts, social science and humanities disciplines and programs, the College of Liberal Arts comprises 31 academic departments, and over 20 interdisciplinary research centers and administrative / support units.
