Description :

The City of Portland is recruiting a highly experienced engagement professional to serve as the Engagement Officer (Director I).

This position is crucial as Portland prepares for significant organizational changes, including the implementation of a new mayor / council government structure.

Position Summary :

The Engagement Officer will provide citywide strategic and programmatic direction for community engagement initiatives. Responsibilities include :

  • Leading the Office of Community and Civic Life, focusing on diverse and culturally specific programs.
  • Managing staff and budget effectively to promote equitable engagement practices.
  • Developing and executing organization-wide engagement strategies.
  • Advising City leadership on engagement plans and policies.
  • Building partnerships with regional community engagement leaders.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • Knowledge and experience in operationalizing community engagement.
  • Experience with managing organizational transformation.
  • Personnel management and budget administration experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in public settings.
  • Experience collaborating with underrepresented communities.
