Job Description

JOIN A TEAM THAT BELIEVES STUDENTS WILL MEET THE HIGHEST ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT EXPECTATIONS

EPIC Academy is a dynamic educational institution dedicated to fostering academic excellence and empowering students to reach their full potential.

Located in the vibrant city of Chicago, we are committed to providing an innovative and inclusive learning environment that prepares students for success in a rapidly evolving world.

EPIC Academy proudly serves one of the most resilient student demographics in Chicago, with 96% of students qualifying for free / reduced lunch, 25% having Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), and 15% being English Language Learners.

On average, our 9th graders enter with academic skills at the 4th-grade level. Despite the prevailing expectation in the area that high school graduation is the ultimate goal, we view these so-called "obstacles" as opportunities to build upon our students' strengths.

At EPIC, we have three overarching goals for every student :

Be Prepared for College : We are committed to preparing our students for college and equipping them with the skills and knowledge they need to thrive in a higher education setting.

Develop College-Bound Beliefs and Behaviors : We instill in our students the belief that college is within their reach, and we help them develop the behaviors and mindset required to achieve this goal.

Graduate from College : Our ultimate aim is to see our students not only enter college but also graduate, setting them on a path to lifelong success.

To achieve these goals, we inspire our students to envision their future, provide transformative experiences that broaden their horizons, and cultivate the academic skills necessary to reach their aspirations.

EPIC Academy is dedicated to creating an inclusive educational environment that respects and harnesses the diversity of our student community.

We are currently seeking a motivated and skilled Diverse Learner Instructor who is committed to fostering a classroom where every student achieves their potential.

This position requires a valid Illinois PEL with an LBS1 endorsement.

Essential Responsibilities & Functions :

  • IEP Goal Setting : Develop Individualized Education Plans (IEP) that are achievable and aligned with the State of Illinois guidelines, ensuring goals are comparable to those of peers.
  • Collaborative Teamwork : Work closely with case managers, counselors, and general education teachers to determine the instructional and social needs of students to promote their success.

Participate actively in multidisciplinary teams to enhance students' wellbeing.

  • Instructional Expertise : Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of educational content, pedagogy, and student needs to select appropriate learning objectives and design coherent instruction and assessments.
  • Cultural and Behavioral Management : Create a classroom environment that fosters effective learning and growth, managing student behaviors and classroom dynamics in a way that values cultural, racial, and linguistic diversity.
  • Engagement and Assessment : Design engaging instructional activities that meet the needs of all students, using challenging questions, effective communication strategies, and aligned assessments.
  • Professional Communication : Display excellent oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal abilities, and professional judgment in interactions with peers, students, and their families.
  • Safety and Discipline : Uphold student safety by consistently implementing the Student Code of Conduct and effective classroom management and disciplinary practices.
  • Innovative and Personalized Learning : Utilize curriculum supplements and technology to tailor and enhance student learning experiences.
  • Advocacy and Leadership : Promote and adhere to the district's vision, emphasizing themes such as equity, cultural competence, high expectations, and the developmental appropriateness of educational practices.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Valid Illinois teaching license with an LBS1 endorsement (required).
  • Demonstrated leadership in teaching and ability to set high expectations.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and deliver effectively.
  • Team-oriented, contributing positively to the collective mission and goals.
  • Solution-oriented with a track record of achieving significant results.

How to Apply : Interested candidates should apply now and submit a resume / cover letter detailing their qualifications for position to [email protected] .

We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace.
