Overview
The HR Manager is a critical role as we build a standalone business focused on being the top commercial door manufacturer in the US and Canada.
Masonite Architectural was recently acquired on May 14, 2024, by the private equity firm Industrial Opportunity Partners.
The HR Manager will support our Components segment which has manufacturing locations in Marshfield, Wisconsin, Birchwood, Wisconsin and Thorp, Wisconsin focused on door cores, door skins and hardwood / plywood.
This role directly supports our Director, Operations Components and will partner with their teams focused on talent acquisition, employee / labor relations, employee skills / capability building, leadership / supervisor development and creating an engaged culture aligned to our new values.
The role has a direct report who is based in Birchwood, Wisconsin. This role reports to our VP, Human Resources.
Responsibilities
Act as a key consultant and advisor to management on human resource issues by identifying problem areas, proposing solutions to correct any issues, and executing those solutions in a timely manner.
Manages complex employee relations issues and as needed, conducts effective, thorough and objective fact finding meetings
Provides performance management guidance to site managers (e.g., coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions)
Provides compensation guidance to site managers (promotions, merit, adjustments, bonus)
Ensure all members of management apply all policies and regulations in a consistent manner by performing periodic audits of employee related actions.
Assist all members of management in communicating expected goals and objectives to their direct reports and involve all employees in decision-making processes in which they can have a direct positive impact.
Manage the recruitment process for all hiring, for both internal and external job postings, in consultation with the management team;
provide onboarding and orientations as required; devise retention strategies for all employees and complete exit interviews.
Ensure all governmental and regulatory requirements are met by maintaining accurate records, submit all reports in a timely manner and insisting that all employees follow the required legal guidelines without deviation.
Drive the performance management and leadership training processes throughout the facilities.
Create and deliver leadership and supervisor training and programming to develop our current and future pipeline of leaders.
Ensure planning, monitoring and appraisal of employee work results by training managers to coach and discipline employees.
Maintain the work structure by updating job descriptions for all positions.
Create, revise and develop policies and procedures as necessary and ensure that all communications surrounding these policies are clear and documented.
Work with the EHS Manager to manage all work related or non-work related leave of absence.
Manage and administer the attendance management program.
Work closely with Payroll & Benefits to ensure compliance with all payroll and benefits related issues.
Develop and maintain progressive relationships with local union leadership and union committees.
Interpret and administer collective bargaining agreements pertaining to wages, grievances, employee welfare, healthcare benefits, union and management practices.
Participates in labor proceedings, including grievance meetings, labor management meetings and bargaining sessions.
Responsible for driving the entire grievance process.
Perform any other duties or participate in special projects as assigned.
Education and Other Requirements
Bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration or relevant discipline.
Ability to objectively coach employees and management through issues that may be complex, difficult and emotional.
Must have the ability to make recommendations to effectively resolve problems or issues by using judgment that is consistent with standards, practices, policies, procedures, regulations or government law.
Ability to manage multiple sites and be present / visible across the three locations.
7-10 years experience in a manufacturing environment. Union experience is required.
Spanish language skills a plus.
Strong supervisor and leadership skills. Builds and develops strong teams.
