Climate United is a partnership of three national non-profits Calvert Impact, The Community Preservation Corporation (CPC) and Self-Help that are complementary in their expertise and like-minded about the imperative to make sure that all Americans, particularly those bearing the greatest burden from the climate crisis, participate in and benefit from the movement to reduce carbon emissions.

The aim of Climate United is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve air quality, and create quality jobs while fostering energy security and savings.

We are seeking a Director of Climate Community Engagement to join our Climate Capital Team!

Role Overview :

The Director of Climate Community Engagement leads the design and execution of the Climate Capital team’s community engagement strategy.

The Climate Capital team’s charge is to help facilitate a clean energy financing network and deliver clean energy products, technologies and services to low wealth and underserved communities as part of Self-Help’s membership in Climate United.

WHAT You'll DO :

  • Lead Self-Help Climate Capital’s coordination with Climate United partners in developing and implementing a national community engagement strategy.
  • Represent Self-Help in the facilitation of the Climate United Advisory Council, on panels / webinars, and at conferences that include community-based organizations focused on climate finance for low-wealth communities.
  • Create and execute the Climate Capital team’s community engagement and outreach strategy, including development of a market-building budget, in coordination with other Climate United partners.
  • Lead a team of outreach professionals in executing community engagement activities focused on understanding the opportunities and barriers for providing access to clean energy solutions to low wealth communities.
  • Build relationships with external partners and networks : community, institutional and governmental organizations to grow pre-development and market-building opportunities nationally.
  • Work in partnership with the Climate Capital team’s sector leaders and business development officers to ensure the development of products and programs to achieve the goals of the program.
  • Influence product design based on learnings from community engagement activities.
  • Support the assessment of effectiveness of products in reaching target communities through qualitative data collection and stakeholder feedback.
  • Communicate impact of products with community partners to ensure ongoing accountability.
  • Collaborate with Self-Help’s national community engagement work group to ensure that climate-related engagement strategies are coordinated and in alignment with Self-Help’s broader community engagement ethos and values.
  • Act as a change agent to drive Self-Help’s economic inclusion initiatives by integrating supplier diversity and the use of businesses owned by women and people of color in third party contracting and vendor management for relevant products and services.
  • Perform other duties as may be deemed necessary.

WHAT You’ll NEED :

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field OR equivalent related experience.
  • Five (5) years of experience building coalitions and partnerships at a regional or national scale with experience preferred that includes actively working in climate justice for low wealth individuals and communities.
  • Experience with financial service delivery a plus.
  • Strong commitment to our mission creating economic opportunity for traditionally underserved communities.
  • Passionate about the connection between climate justice and economic justice.
  • Preference for working in organizations that place priority on teamwork and collaboration.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 40%.

Compensation Range : Compensation ranges for each position are based on local market rates and will be determined by geography, role, and experience.
