Purpose of Position
The Lead Technician provides leadership and guidance to the Simulator Support Technicians assigned to them to maintain and / or repair Flight Training Devices (FTDs) in accordance with Regulatory Authority requirements and Company standards.
Tasks and Responsibilities
The Lead Technician performs without assistance; recognized as a resource to others; provides leadership and guidance to simulator technicians;
focuses on complex issues.
- Perform standard Simulator support activities
- Perform configuration changes to Simulators and FTDs, evaluate and confirm proper post- change operation.
- Identify, troubleshoot, repair or replace most of the Simulator and FTD electrical and sub system components and most hydraulic system components with little to no assistance.
- Exercise judgment and independence in determining solutions to maintenance and repair problems.
- Ensure that maintenance actions result in the most cost efficient manner of execution.
- Exhibit understanding of the representative aircraft systems that support the Simulator cockpit indications. Exhibit advanced knowledge of specific aircraft systems.
- Recognize training critical issues and act accordingly.
- Monitor Simulators; performance and condition to ensure that equipment continues in compliance with governmental regulations.
- Able to accomplish scheduled portions of the Qualification Test Guide; check and mark test results; and participate in recertification procedures for the FAA.
- Monitor Simulators performance and condition to ensure compliance with governmental regulations
- Demonstrate familiarity with governing regulations for the proper operation of all FTDs, the facility, and the safe employment of personnel.
- Initiate or assist users in the preparation of a Simulator Discrepancy Report
- Read and interpret technical drawings
- Use test equipment, support equipment and tools used on flight simulators, graphical flight simulators and associated electronics devices
- Demonstrate a good understanding of the advanced operating principles of simulator and FTD subsystems.
- Demonstrate knowledge of all Simulator Support, Quality Operating Procedures, and related documentation.
- Make recommendations concerning needed parts, acquisitions, or other material used for FTD repair and support.
- Report any safety hazards observed in work area, equipment, and / or building as per company Safety Management System directive.
- Demonstrate familiarity with Learning Center daily department operations and applicable procedures
Minimum Education
Associates degree in electronics from a college or completion of a civilian / military electronics technical school preferred
Minimum Experience
Seven years experience, including electronics technology, avionics or related civilian / military technology; or equivalent direct support of full flight simulators and / or FTDs
