The New Hanover County Facilities Management Department is seeking an HVAC Trades Specialist to maintain HVAC equipment for various county-owned buildings.
Responsibilities for this role include :
- Coordinate work for projects with vendors, contractors, and subcontractors
- Respond to work orders for preventative maintenance and repair of HVAC equipment (heat pump, ice machine, exhaust fans, pumps, cooling towers etc.)
- Perform all levels of HVAC repair, troubleshooting issues to determine the best course of action for repair or replacement of systems and or their components
- Estimate repair costs and materials needed for specific repairs
- Perform other duties of a similar nature or level
- Perform work during emergency / disaster situations
- Serve in the on-call pool

Hours :
7 : 00 AM - 4 : 00 PM, Monday - Friday.
Must be available to report for emergency work assignment during emergency situations.

Salary Information :
The hiring salary for this position starts at $42,050.00 annually + a sign on bonus and competitive benefits package. Salary will be determined based on qualifications, internal equity, budget, and market considerations.
Sign On Bonus : Candidates accepting regular benefits eligible employment into this position are eligible to receive a one-time sign on bonus of $2,000 with half being paid upon starting in the position and the second half being paid upon successful completion of one's introductory period.
In the event the employee voluntarily resigns from the position before one year of service in it, the employee shall repay the sign on bonus amount on a prorated basis, depending on the length of full time service in the position prior to resignation.
Please note : the bonus installments paid are subject to all required applicable payroll taxes and deductions.)Current NHC employees hired to fill one of these positions will receive half of the sign on bonus amount ($1,000) upon starting in the position and the second installment of ($1,000) will be paid following 180 days of successful employment in the position. Qualifications
Required Education and Experience :
High school diploma / GED and 1 year of HVAC service experience; or completion of an approved HVAC apprenticeship program;
or an equivalent combination of training and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
What will make your application standout :
- Commercial and residential HVAC service experience preferred
- Experience with HVAC control systems
- Basic plumbing experience is preferred
Licenses / Certifications
Required :
- CFC Certification
- Valid Driver's License (from any state) and good driving record required at time of application.
- Valid North Carolina Driver’s License required by first date of employment with good driving record.
