Purpose
To provide the receipt, disbursement, and recording of cash payments in food service operations within University Housing and Dining (UHD).
Provide training, instruction, and guidance to Cashier I and part-time cashiers.
Responsibilities
Greet and interact with internal and external customers in a professional and enthusiastic manner while providing excellent customer service.
Accurately enter transactions in Micros (a point-of-sale system), process customer transactions including cash, credit cards, and meal plans.
Accurately identify food items, portion sizes, and meal combination packages as needed.
Adhere to UHD cash handling guidelines. Complete paperwork related to cashier operation, including transfer of funds reports, closing reports, cash reconciliation sheets, and deposit envelopes.
Run ending reports and balance drawer. Provide cash control including cashing out the cashiers following the UHD guidelines and policies.
Perform opening and closing duties as required. Responsible for all front of the house set up for location. Responsible for maintaining proper cleanliness for the front of house including replenishing supplies for the area.
Properly display merchandise.
Assists in restocking cashier supplies, shelves, and open-air coolers. Ensure all HAACP logs are completed as required. Ensure front of the house is clean and all areas are fully stocked including coffee, grab-and-go coolers, condiments, and napkins.
Completes inventory as assigned.
Provide training and guidance to Cashier I, temporary, and student staff as assigned by the supervisor and / or leader. Ensure cashier breaks are coordinated and covered during work shifts.
Directs efforts of cashier team and assist with providing staff guidance with dining room cleanliness. Communicate professionally with staff, supervisory staff, and / or customers.
Maintain current knowledge of all areas of responsibility.
Adhere to written and oral University and UHD policies such as time and attendance and UHD / UT trainings and compliance.
Complete and maintain required food safety training, including Texas Food Handler Safety. Follow work safety guidelines and utilize proper PPE as needed.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
High school graduation or GED.
Two years of experience as a cashier in a large-scale operation.
Customer service experience and ability to communicate effectively.
Ability to complete and maintain Food Safety Training required by University Housing and Dining.
Ability to complete and maintain University Housing and Dining cash handling training.
Preferred Qualifications
Three or more years of experience as a cashier in a large-scale operation.
Experience training or leading staff.
Experience as a cashier in a dining or retail establishment.
High volume cashiering experience.
Experience using a point-of-sale system (POS).
Ability to multi-task and work with little supervision.
Salary Range
$41,600+ depending on qualifications
Working Conditions
Uniforms and / or personal protection equipment (furnished).
May work in extreme temperatures.
May work around chemical fumes.
Repetitive use of keyboard at a workstation.
Use of manual dexterity.
Lifting and moving up to 35 pounds.
Pushing, pulling and moving up to 50 pounds.
Must successfully complete testing for strength and agility prior to employment.
Work Shift
Workdays, area, and work hours may vary based on the needs of the unit, and University Housing and Dining (UHD).

Retirement Plan Eligibility :
The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
