The Role
Develop, lead, and manage the USTA's vision for a robust coaching education, services, and delivery system that will foster greater coach and player retention and the growth of tennis
- Lead the development & implementation of the USTA coaching initiative vision and strategy, elevating the education standards and delivery systems for a vast array of coaches in the tennis ecosystem throughout the U.S.
- Build and oversee the delivery of a world-class value proposition to attract and retain a broad spectrum of coaches (parents / volunteers, teachers, community, college, career professionals) and provide the education and types of services needed to meet consumer demand for the quantity and quality of coaches, adopting a diverse and inclusive culture to support coaching growth, retention and career aspirations, as well as player retention.
- Develop and manage an expert team to oversee and support the delivery of all aspects of the coaching initiatives, including coach education, curriculum development, related services, adoption of the American Development Model (ADM), a national internship / fellowship program, the evolution of the Accreditation Program, and a Professional Tennis Management Program associated with colleges / universities.
- Develop and oversee operating practices and processes to improve consistency, effectiveness and efficiencies within the tennis coaching ecosystem and external tennis industry relationships.
Collaborate with internal and external partners for the expansion of Safe Play training, education and compliance.
- Establish partnerships with external domestic and international coach educators; build collaborations with National Governing Bodies and sports associations to share and leverage standard methodologies with the goal of making tennis coaching education and services in the U.S. a global standard.
- Collaborate with Community Tennis colleagues in marketing, digital, membership, etc., to fulfill the goals of the coaching initiative and establish a network of Regional Training Centers to deliver the coach education and training offerings and implement a compliance process to ensure alignment with established quality standards.
- Implement USTA coaching strategic priorities, manage and develop department budget and projections.
Who You Are
These qualifications and competencies collectively ensure that the Managing Director possesses the necessary skills, experience, and attributes to effectively lead and advance coaching education and delivery within the USTA.
- An identifiable and credible tennis background, demonstrating expertise and knowledge within the sport.
- Outstanding management experience and skills, with a minimum of ten years in a management role.
- A Master's Degree is preferred, reflecting a high level of academic achievement.
- Substantial experience in Coach Education and Coach Development, showcasing a deep understanding of the field.
- Effective written and verbal skills, to convey ideas clearly and facilitate collaboration.
- Strong team-building skills, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
- Demonstrated leadership skills, guiding teams toward common goals and fostering innovation.
- Initiative and persistence in completing tasks and responsibilities, showcasing a proactive and results-oriented approach.
- Flexibility and the ability to work effectively with volunteers, adapting to diverse working styles and preferences.
- The role is designated as "hybrid / flex," allowing for both remote and on-site work. Adherence to current USTA hybrid / flex requirements is essential, with periodic updates from HR informing the most current policy.

The expected range for the base salary for this position is $180,000 - $203,000. This role is bonus eligible. This range does not include any additional pay or benefits for which a person may qualify.
The actual base salary offered is determined by several variables, including, as appropriate, the applicant's qualifications for the position, the years of relevant experience, their unique skills, and the location from which they will be performing the job.
