Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Program Director, in partnership with the San Francisco Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing (HSH), the candidate will provide mentoring and support to individuals who have been recently housed in scattered site housing through the Flexible Housing Subsidy Pool Program.
Most clients will be actively on City of SF Shared Priority List. Clients may be struggling with one or several of the following : mental illness, substance use disorder, poverty, legal issues, discrimination, and experience in the homeless response system.
The Candidate works with clients individually and in group settings with a focus on peer counseling, housing navigation and support to maintain housing.
Candidate applies personal experience as a consumer of mental health services and the homeless response system. Assists coworkers with case management responsibilities;
serves as a role model of recovery; utilizes a team approach to accomplish goals. Adheres to all State, Federal and County documentation standards and HIPAA regulations.
Certification or credentialing in peer support services, substance abuse treatment and / or mental health services is strongly preferred.
Works in collaboration with UCSF, core partners Brilliant Corners, and housing providers. Candidate demonstrates a commitment to anti-racism and social justice and the ability to engage and support diverse communities.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF.
For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $29.99 - $48.23 (Hourly Rate).

Department Description
The Flexible Housing Pool Team is a division of Citywide Supportive Housing Programs, a UCSF / ZSFG Department of Psychiatry outpatient program located at 1263 Mission Street.
Its mission is to provide intensive case management services to adults who suffer from severe mental illness, co-occurring substance abuse disorders and many who also have chronic medical issues who are involved in the homelessness response system of San Francisco.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience (may include specialty certificate : CADC, mental health certificate, peer specialist certificate in related field) and 1 or more years of relevant work experience
- One year of experience delivering case management services in a community-based social service setting.
- At least 2-3 years of 'lived experience' within the community behavioral health system and / or homeless response system, preferably in San Francisco.
- Knowledge of computers and software including Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Outlook email
- Demonstrated excellent attendance and reliability
- Good problem-solving skills
- An understanding of mental health issues and sensitivity toward mental health clients
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions accurately
- Ability to work as part of a team, to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and work independently in a high-pressure environment;
- Ability to work with clients and program staff from diverse cultural and social class backgrounds.
- Able to lift 50 lbs., climb stairs and walk on average up to 5 miles per day.
Preferred Qualifications
Acquiring knowledge of Patient Rights & Responsibilities, Joint Commission Standards, and Centers for Medicare / Medicaid regulations.
Knowledge of Medical terminology, knowledge of data collection, compilation and analytical techniques.
- Skills to comprehend and assess patient's grievances to quickly locate appropriate resources for assistance.
- Solid interpersonal and customer service skills, ability to be diplomatic and organized; ability to remain calm under pressure and apply sound judgement.
