The MissionThe Mission of the San Francisco Department of Public Health (SFDPH) is to protect and promote the health of all San Franciscans.
SFDPH strives to achieve its mission through the work of multiple divisions - the San Francisco Health Network, Population Health, Behavioral Health Services, and Administration.
The San Francisco Health Network is the City’s only complete system of care and has locations throughout the City, including Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center, Laguna Honda Hospital and Rehabilitation Center, and over 15 primary care health centers.
The Population Health Division (PHD) provides core public health services for the City and County of San Francisco : health protection, health promotion, disease and injury prevention, and disaster preparedness and response.
Behavioral Health Services operates in conjunction with SFHN and provides a range of mental health and substance use treatment services.

Job Description
This is an as-needed, Temporary Exempt (TEX) appointment with the Rape Treatment Center (RTC) and the Child and Adolescent Support, Advocacy and Resource Center (CASARC), that is not to exceed 1,040 hours per year.
The RTC and CASARC provide 24 / 7 direct clinical services to adult, adolescent and pediatric victims of suspected sexual assault.
This position is excluded by the Charter from the competitive Civil Service examination process and shall serve at the discretion of the Appointing Officer.
This role includes performing the following essential job functions :
- Provides 24 / 7 direct clinical services to adult, adolescent and pediatric victims of suspected sexual assault.
- Provides evaluation, treatment and follow-up to adult, adolescent and pediatric victims of sexual assault.
- Provides forensic examinations to adult, adolescent and pediatric victims of sexual assault.
- Complies with mandated reporting laws.
- Provides link to follow-up mental health services at TRC / RTC or CASARC for victims of sexual assault.
- Provides expert courtroom testimony when a subpoena is issued.
- Participates in program development and QI activities.
- Trains, proctors and precept new providers, as needed.
- Attends mandatory staff meetings for ongoing training, professional development and case review.
- Collaborates with TRC / RTC / CASARC clinical staff, SFGH ED medical and nursing staff, San Francisco SART members (SFWAR, SFPD, SFDA, SFVOC, SF Crime Lab, SF Medical Examiner’s office) and other division and department members.

Desirable
The stated desirable qualifications may be used to identify job finalists at the end of the selection process when candidates are referred for hiring.
- One year of verifiable experience as a Physician Assistant working in a Rape Treatment Center with demonstrated advance practice competency.
- One year of verifiable experience as a Physician Assistant in an acute care setting within the last three years.
- Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner (SAFE) or Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) training.
- One year of verifiable experience working as a Physician Assistant i work setting serving a diverse patient population in terms of race, ethnicity, culture, language, sexual orientation, gender identity and socioeconomic status.
- Demonstrated ability to positively interact with all members of a multidisciplinary team including nursing and medical staff, law enforcement, CPS / APS, advocacy agencies and the District Attorney’s Office.
- Demonstrated ability contribute to the development of new and innovative programs of care.
- Demonstrated commitment to working with survivors of sexual violence across the lifespan, including experience training and / or working as a sexual assault forensic examiner and / or providing advocacy for survivors of traumatic assault and / or interpersonal violence.
- Demonstrated experience and sensitivity in working with indigent patients with complex psychosocial and substance use problems.
- Demonstrated experience working with children in foster care, commercially sexually exploited children (CSEC), children / youth with mental illness, abused or neglected children / youth.
Qualifications
Required Before Applying️
Possession of a valid Certification as a Physician Assistant issued by the California Board of Medical Quality Assurance.
License status must be "Renewed & Current" according to
Basic Life Support for Professional Rescuer (BLS) Certificate Requirement / Provision : Possession of a valid Basic Life Support for Professional Rescuer (BLS) Certificate issued by the American Heart Association is required as a provision to employment for all positions.
Eligibles who do not possess such a certification may participate in this examination process and be appointed to a position(s), but will be required to obtain the certificate within two (2) weeks of the hire date and maintain validity throughout the length of employment.
A photocopy of the valid Basic Life Support for Professional Rescuer (BLS) Certificate must be provided to the appropriate supervisor of the appointment within the allotted time frame.
Failure to demonstrate / show proof of possession of valid certification within two (2) weeks of the hire date and throughout the length of employment may result in dismissal and / or termination of employment.
