Under the general direction of the Executive Director and Director of Research and Policy for the Center for Equity for English Learners (CEEL), the CEEL Research Associate : (1) provides research services such as design of research protocols and tools, data collection and oversight of data entry, quantitative and qualitative analyses, and summaries;
2) conducts literature reviews and provides summaries; (3) interfaces with internal and external research partners to facilitate meeting research and evaluation goals and objectives.
Relying on an in-depth knowledge of PreK-12 and higher education, educational research experience, and other related disciplines and literature, the Associate will contribute to CEEL’s research and evaluation agenda.
Position Specific Responsibilities / Accountabilities
- Under the direction of the CEEL Leadership Team, create research work plans to manage and coordinate research projects and meet project goals, objectives, and timelines. (5%)
- Contribute to the design of research protocols and tools. (10%)
- Research, gather, coordinate organization, and summarize data for research projects and related activities. Analyze data and make recommendations on presentations of research reports.
Provide data, including visual analysis of data, through charts, graphs, etc. (20%)
- Assist CEEL’s Executive Director, Director of Research and Policy, and Sr. Research Associate in developing and delivering research presentations and planning various interrelated activities. (10%)
- Support and manage the research and evaluation components of CEEL programs and projects, evaluating elements, collecting, and maintaining quantitative and qualitative data, conducting analyses, and writing interim or summative reports as required. (15%)
- Conduct research using electronic and hand searches in refereed journals, statistical reports, websites, etc. Analyze, interpret, and synthesize data and scholarly articles.
Write literature reviews to support the development of scholarly articles, grant proposals, conference papers, reports, newsletters, PowerPoint presentations, and speeches.
Write abstracts and summaries for inclusion in articles and reports; Review and revise articles, reports, and other documents written by CEEL and other members of the staff, research and write articles for publication in scholarly journals. (15%)
Contribute to the development of research reports, Memorandums of Understanding for research projects, and publications as needed or assigned.
Create status reports on project plans, progress, and results of activities. Coordinate publication production and / or dissemination in compliance with strict deadlines. (8%)
- Coordinate and oversee systems to collect, manage and archive confidential research documentation, including compliance with IRB requirements and FERPA regulations. (5%)
- Serve as a liaison between the CEEL Team and LMU and internal and external research partners. Working closely with CEEL, external higher education experts, and other staff on research projects sponsored by CEEL. (5%)
- Provide leadership and guidance to staff, student workers, volunteers, and / or graduate assistants. Lead others in the planning and delivery of project activities. (5%)
- Perform other research-related duties as assigned or requested. (2%)

Requisite Qualifications
Typically, a M. Sc. or M. A. Degree in Higher Education or related field or equivalent experience. Bachelor’s degree required.
The incumbent will be expected to continue upgrading knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to keep abreast of regulation / policy changes.
Minimum five years of progressively responsible experience required. Graduate level coursework and / or experience in project management and implementation in a PK-12 or higher education setting required;
experience in research preferred. Demonstrated knowledge in the areas of quantitative and qualitative methodology, diversity issues in higher education, diversity data collection and analysis.
- Highly developed organizational, leadership, and customer service skills.
- Exemplary communication skills (both written and oral) evidenced by background in preparing comprehensive reports and executive summaries incorporating complex, highly technical information.
strong interpersonal / human relations skills with diverse groups of students, faculty, and staff; ability to work independently.
Ability to multi-task, plan, organize and execute day-to-day operations; work under deadlines and maintain a detail-oriented approach to each task;

- Participate in professional development workshops and activities, review and stay current with qualitative and quantitative studies in professional journals, reports, and publications devoted to higher education and other related disciplines to communicate relevant trends and make recommendations.
- Demonstrated ability to use computer software packages that must be used to develop online surveys, analyze data, make presentations, write reports, etc.
e.g., SPSS, ATLAS, online survey software, quantitative and qualitative data analysis programs, spreadsheet programs, graphics and presentation programs, and word processing programs).
- Disseminate and monitor publications.
