Job Description and Duties

Under the supervision of a Senior Utilities Engineer (Supervisor), the Utilities Engineer will perform engineering assignments in the field related to the Commission's oversight of the safety and reliability of electric distribution, transmission, substation, and communication facilities.

The oversight includes the requirements in Commission General Orders 95, 128, 165, 166, 167, 174, and 176. Utilities Engineer duties include conducting audits of inspection and maintenance records, and field inspection of utility electric and communication infrastructure.

Electric Safety and Reliability Branch engineers also investigate utility incidents involving, death, injury, and property damage and customer complaints.

The engineer's time in the office is spent writing reports on audits and investigations conducted, preparing for upcoming inspections, resolving safety related customer complaints and occasionally preparing for and testifying in formal proceedings before the Commission, involving enforcement of electric and communication safety regulations.

Additionally, incumbent will be required to travel on a frequent basis, including occasional multi-day and / or overnight stays that require driving over 100 miles and working unusual hours.

  • Describe your experience in preparing clear, comprehensive, and persuasive reports on technical issues and making verbal presentations, explaining issues in a clear and concise manner.
