Job Description
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Gym Teacher to join our vibrant Catholic school community. You will foster a love of physical activity in our students while upholding the Catholic faith and values.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement a developmentally-appropriate physical education curriculum for elementary grades (typically Pre-K through 6th grade).
This curriculum should integrate fitness concepts, basic sports skills, and games while adhering to state standards and the school's philosophy.
- Ensure a safe and positive learning environment where all students feel comfortable participating. This includes creating clear expectations, providing positive reinforcement, and modifying activities for different abilities.
- Incorporate Catholic values like sportsmanship, teamwork, and respect into your lessons.
- Offer opportunities for students to develop their gross motor skills, cardiovascular health, and overall well-being.
- Assess student progress through observation and participation.
- Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, teachers, and administration regarding student progress and program goals.
- Maintain a clean and organized gym space and ensure proper care and storage of equipment.
- Collaborate with school administration and other faculty members.
- Participate in professional development opportunities. This may include attending workshops or conferences related to physical education and Catholic education.
Qualifications
- Master's degree or working towards a Master's Degree in Physical Education or a related field.
- Valid NYS teaching certification for elementary physical education.
- Experience teaching physical education in an elementary school setting is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of child development and best practices for teaching physical education.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to create a positive and engaging learning environment.
- Commitment to the Catholic faith and its values.
- Complete a Safe Environment Training program-this training focuses on protecting children from abuse.
