The Georgia Public Health laboratory is seeking a Newborn Screening Program Director and subject matter expert to support screening for genetic and metabolic newborn disorders using a variety of instrumentation and technology.

The Georgia Public Health Laboratory Newborn Screening unit works in collaboration with the Newborn Screening program and medical follow-up partners.

This position will be responsible for :

• Serving as Subject Matter Expert and meeting CLIA requirements as a Technical Supervisor for the Newborn Screening unit.
• Providing technical expertise for the development, validation, and implementation of genetic testing and result interpretation for existing and new newborn disorders according to the recommended uniform screening panel (RUSP).
• Working with program, follow-up, and medical diagnostics to review the implementation of NBS assays and associated data.
• Providing consultation regarding laboratory testing methodologies and result interpretation.
• NBS testing, as appropriate, according to the recommended uniform screening panel (RUSP) and advances in analytical technologies.

This position will report directly to the DCLS Deputy Director.

• Managing human resources and directing administrative activities for the unit.
• Participating in the planning and management of budgets.

This position will report directly to the Georgia Public Health Laboratory Deputy Director.

Minimum Qualifications :

• Comprehensive knowledge of newborn screening or clinical genetics.
• Knowledge of clinical laboratory science, laboratory quality assurance, and the regulatory requirements under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA).
• Experience with the validation and verification of new methods.
• Experience with grant writing, budget creation, and monitoring.
• Knowledge of laboratory statistical methods.
• Doctorate in a related field from an accredited college or university.
• Certified by the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ABMCG) or eligible for certification within 18 months.

Preferred qualifications :

Four years management experience.
