LEAD CODING INSTRUCTOR : You’ll inspire creativity, build confidence and help students gain coding experience and computational thinking skills for the jobs of tomorrow.
The lead instructors’ primary role is to lead and oversee all operations of your assigned sessions, develop and carry out activities and lesson plans, manage the classroom and lead the assistant instructors / mentors assigned to your session.
You’ll work closely with the Educational Programs Manager. Lead instructors must quickly establish and build positive relationships with program participants, families, staff and partners.
You’ll be responsible for teaching a coding curriculum to groups of K-12 students! Create an inclusive atmosphere where every student is respected and appreciated for their own talents and individuality.
Ensure the safety of all students and staff. KEY SKILLS : Teaching experience : Minimum two years working in a classroom environment, leading school-aged children in hands-on activities, required.
Teaching certificate is a plus. Will also consider subject matter experts with a demonstrated interest in working with kids in education, childhood development or other learning environments.
Classroom management experience : Demonstrated experience implementing youth curriculum, differentiating curriculum in the classroom, and managing a classroom.
Technical skills : Experience with various block-based and text-based programming languages required. Interests : Positive, inclusive interest in working with neurodiverse students, developing differentiated learning opportunities and teaching.
High energy and passionate about technology and kids. Commitment : Strong desire to teach others how to code. Commitment to building a safe, student-focused community.
Responsibility : On time, prepared, and cheerful. Professional demeanor. Demonstrated ethics, integrity and accountability.
Strong problem-solving skills and flexibility. Leadership : Willing to take ownership of projects and see them through to completion.
Transportation : Must have reliable transportation and ability to travel throughout the city. PREFERRED EXPERIENCE : Computer Science programmers with an interest in working with students.
Ability to develop engaging and fun coding activities for students Youth supervisory experience, preferred First aid / CPR certified or willing to be certified.
Experience working with diverse racial and socio-economic backgrounds. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent leadership abilities.
Strong organizational, problem-solving and time management skills. Ability to provide leadership and energy, constantly assessing group dynamics and the needs of individual students.
Demonstrated professionalism, ethics and accountability. Professional demeanor when faced with challenges. Must be able to lift at least 20 lbs.
Ability to complete other duties, as assigned. HOURS : 15-20 part-time; 32-40 full time Youth Code Jam regular office hours are 9 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday.
During the school year clubs and camps typically run before and after school hours, September through May, and all day during the summer hours, June through August.
Employees are expected to arrive 30-60 minutes before the start of each program, and stay on-site at the end of the session and the room and equipment are secured.
COMPENSATION : $17-$25 / hour, depending on experience and level of education All employees must pass a Criminal Background Check and Child Protection Training.
